I had waited so long to visit The Inn at Kingsbarns, I have been tracing back my family tree and my family come from Kingsbarns so this has been a long awaited visit for me as I am not local to the area. I had wanted to book an overnight stay but was told when I phoned a couple of weeks before that during July and August I would have to book a minimum of 2 nights and at £150 a night, that's pretty pricey so I decided against it. We had a lovely meal, our waiter was attentive and helpful, the food was good. The waiting staff were really lovely. No complaints there. However, it was the manager who absolutely ruined our visit. There was a young family in the restaurant, the 2 small children were beautifully behaved and utilising the games provided by the pub. However, we witnessed the manager 'rip into' the family for absolutely no reason whatsoever other than the children had dropped a game on the floor (which was being picked up by said children). It was quite distressing and to be honest, totally unnecessary. I don't understand why the pub provide games for children when they clearly irritate the owners. All rather bizarre and actually upsetting to witness. Not what you expect when you are just going for a pub meal! There is a lot more I could say about this incident and how rude the manager was but, having read his responses to people who criticise his establishment, I think it would just go over his head. I do hope that the manager responds by publicly apologising to the family we witnessed him 'ripping into' for absolutely no reason whatsoever. I think it's the least he can do.
