We did not stay here but just called in to dine in the rear bar. My choice was pan seared halibut with potato ronde and garlic wilted spinach cream costing £26. Well worth a 10/10 score but could do with another side dish. Madame went for the deep fried fish and chips. The fish was hanging over both sides of the plate and was under a pile of chips of which she devoured all with tartare sauce. No complaints from either of us. Bar service was a bit slow but we were in no rush. The good part is that the X2 bus service to Cardiff stops practically right outside and operates on a half hour service during the day so that I could have a drink.

Lovely hotel let down on my visit by adolescent staff messing about in the restaurant and not looking after the residents and diners. Food was amazing and the steak is to die for.

We ate in “The Cube”. Summers evening, sun shining in on the glass structure based in the old village.. Queue a wedding event so you wait for 1.5 hrs for your starter, when it arrives it’s poor in taste and quality. Main course is more of the same. Very poor food and service.. we had to even chase them to serve our wine order after 20 mins. Food flavours were diluted. Quality of produce low. You would be better off eating in Forage than here sorry.. Maybe you need to review things.. I doubt we will ever come back especially as the service charge was “hidden”’on your bill .. nota chance..

Comfortable bed, large single, good tea and coffee, large shower, plenty of towels. Cosy room. A quality hotel but not stuffy. Bedding so soft. Quite in the evening. Good location to explore the High Street and area. Friendly staff, and helpful. Breakfast is good, you eat at the Penny Farthing, yummy. Safe car park around the back.

Decent room in the attic above the pub. Not noisy and we slept well. There are lots of stairs and corridors to get to the top floor where our room was. Breakfast is in a nice cafe over the road. The eggs Benedict was very good.

We travel around the UK sveral times a year & generally find lovely accommodations. However, although our room was lovely, the new glass restaurant was bitterly cold as the doorway leding to & from the kitchen was permanently open. Blankets were provided when rquested but we were still uncomfortably cold & I returned to our room to put on a coat plus socks & trainers. It resulted in finding another restaurant to dine for the rest of our stay. Not what we would expect of a 4 star hotel.

Nice trip, excellent car parking facilities and outside bar sitting area. Room clean and relatively quiet with kettle and biscuits. Steps to room could be a bit awkward with lot of baggage.

Really enjoyed the hotel room, the facilities, and the wonderful staff. Dinner was a mixed bag and breakfast was terrible for an establishment like the Bear.
