I left this review on Google:
We booked for two nights as we wanted to visit Shrewsbury. For this, it's very conveniently located and the spa/pool facilities were a bonus on top. The pool was lovely, clean. All the staff were friendly enough too, especially the guy on leisure centre reception. We had an issue on the first night and didn't have any hot water in our room. After reporting it I had to ring reception a couple of times to find out what was going on, we were informed they'd called an engineer and it would "hopefully be working by midnight". No offer of a change of room. Water was however working by the morning.
Next day we got back to find our TV wasn't working properly. I was advised by reception to turn it off and turn it on again at the wall, which unsurprisingly didn't fix the signal issue. Reception agreed to change our room. It might sound petty, but a TV is included in the room and when you've managed a couple of nights away child-free it's the little things you want to enjoy!
No offer of anything else to make up for the inconveniences. Maybe I'm just being spoilt but with that many hotels around it wouldn't make me choose Mercure in a hurry. Shame, as it's a lovely clean hotel let down by poor management.
