The Wrea Head Hall Country House Hotel & Restaurant

We have just returned from four nights at this lovely hotel, the staff and service were excellent, the food exceptional. We had the lovely Ellis Suite overlooking immaculate gardens and it was a huge and very comfortable room with a lovely bathroom. I hope we can go back sometime it’s certainly worth a return visit.

Stayed with friends on a 3 night break for our wedding anniversary. We stayed in rooms 31 and 32 in the carriage house which were pretty well identical and having been recently fitted out were beautifully appointed with everything completed to a very high standard. Further building works are being carried out to the carriage house and it is evident that the buildings and grounds are maintained to a very high standard. Stayed on a DB&B basis and found the food to be absolutely wonderful. The quality of items used for the cooked breakfast was very good and nicely presented. Fantastic choice of menu for the evening meal and again nicely presented with well sourced ingredients cooked to perfection. There are numerous staff many of which are quite young but compliment the hotel well with their professionalism and level of service. I cannot recommend the hotel enough and the owners should be proud of the facilities on offer and the staff they employ to make guests so welcome.

The whole experience - the room, the food, the friendly staff - all were absolutely the best. We had never been before, this was our wedding anniversary occasion and we were so pleased that we chose to come to Wrea Head Hall. The hall itself is so full of character, the grounds are beautifully kept, we cannot praise it highly enough. The people we met were all returning clients - that says it all.

Just enjoyed a four night stay at the Wrea Head Hall and our trip was practically perfect in every way! Post op so I was slightly concerned by the lack of lifts but actually experienced no difficulty at all. If accessibility is an issue, there are ground floor bedrooms. Both our room and the public rooms were clean, well furnished and inviting. Every single member of staff was friendly. We stayed half board. The cooked part of breakfast was outstanding. The cold portion was basic but acceptable. Dinner (as mentioned by other guests) is the same menu each evening. I did find that the starter and dessert choices were a little samey for my tastes but everything was exquisitely prepared and attractively presented. The car park is situated in a number of areas but we never had an issue finding a parking spot. My only minor complaint is that the cold tap in the bathroom ran hot water. The purchase of bottled water to brush our teeth soon corrected the problem. Overall a fantastic trip (despite the awful weather) and we are planning a return trip with other family members.

We have stayed many times at this wonderful hotel. The accommodation and food are excellent but the quality of the staff really makes each stay special. They are attentive and knowledgeable and really look after their guests. We will be returning soon.

Excellent staff. Would have liked a menu change as it was the same for 5 nights. Also would have liked a light lunchtime, menu. Please can you offer a daily newspaper service. Some rooms were up 2 flights of stairs - no lift available . We were moved on day 1 because we couldn’t cope with the stairs.

This would have been ‘excellent’ other than a major ‘hiccup’ on our first morning for breakfast. The staff were absolutely fantastic, they couldn’t do enough. We stayed (and paid for) a superior room in the stable block at the rear of the main premises, fantastic room, excellent amenities, but we were told ‘there is an umbrella for your use when coming across the the main building’, we had to use it, it was not fully operational due to a missing stay (minor problem). At breakfast time, Monday, we made our breakfast order, as did others, and waited, and waited, and waited and when it arrived I had one ‘carbonised’ breakfast rasher of bacon (it had broken into two), like eating a piece of wood) and a (single) sausage semi carbonised, so much so the knife would cut through it and the skin left the contents and no fried egg - came later after raising it as missing. The staff were going round every table offering extra hot drinks as a result of (in my view) horrendous delay’s. My wife had smoked haddock, so small it was hard to find. On the Tuesday a waiter by the name of Kumar was there, had this been our first breakfast we would have thought it amazing, service almost immediate, excellent portions, absolutely everything completely different. We assume, but we were never told, a problem in the kitchen the day before. In the dining room for breakfast over one hour the first day, all done within 35 mins the second. Fantastic building and setting and literally full of people of a certain age, including us! The grounds are immaculate. We did not eat evening meals there as the menu did not suit our needs.

Well what can I say, what a lucky find, I only ever write a review if the hotel is exceptional and this one really was. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, the rooms are clean modern, tastefully decorated and everything you could possibly need. The food is wonderful, very well presented and very high quality produce. Breakfast was excellent. A truly wonderful stay, can't wait to return.
