AAVNN HolidayMy stay at this ryokan in Shibu Onsen was an unforgettable experience! From the moment we arrived, the hospitality was impeccable. The ryokan features private onsen that can be booked in advance, offering an intimate and serene experience. Soaking in the warm, mineral-rich waters while gazing at the surrounding natural beauty was a highlight of the trip.
The ryokan’s free shuttle service made exploring the area incredibly convenient. We were easily transported to the iconic Snow Monkey Park, the nearby train station, and other local attractions, which added to the seamless experience.
The dining experience was nothing short of spectacular. Both private breakfast and dinner were served in a tranquil setting, with beautifully prepared dishes showcasing the best of seasonal and local ingredients. The flavors were authentic and delicious,

BBryce van de LaarFrom the moment you enter Kokuya Ryokan, be prepared to leave the real world behind and fully immerse yourself in the experience. You swap your shoes for slippers at the door and don’t see them again until you leave. You will receive a warm welcome from polite and gentle-mannered staff, get taken up to your beautiful room, and once you’ve changed into your traditional yukata, it’s time to let the relaxation begin. The multi-course dinner will probably be one of the best meals you’ve had in your life, with many unusual textures and flavors to try. The futons are comfortable, and your room is kept toasty warm. There are even skincare products to keep you pampered and moisturized between soaks in the onsen. Honestly, you won’t even need to open your suitcase while you’re there.
The staff will take you through all the logistics when you arrive, but there are some things that might be useful to know in advance.
- The ryokan sends a shuttle to Yudanaka station at about 15:00 to collect new arrivals, so time your journey to take advantage of this benefit.
- The ryokan also offers guests the opportunity to catch a shuttle to the Snow Monkey Park immediately after breakfast the next morning.
- After you leave the ryokan, they will take your luggage down to the coffee shop opposite the station, so you don’t need to worry about those logistics.
- Trains from Yudanaka back to Nagano leave at 12:30 and 15:30.
- The ryokan itself has several private onsens that you can reserve for a 45-minute slot. Because the onsens are on the property, you can go in with your partner or travel companions regardless of gender. It’s a boutique hotel, so you don’t have to worry about not getting access to all the onsens you want.
- The ryokan is on the main road of the Shibu Onsen town. The hotel will give you a key so you can wonder down the main road, visiting any of the public onsens you wish - however, with so many gorgeous and more private onsens in the hotel itself, you probably won’t have time or the desire for this.
- Also, there is a coffee machine in the room! (I was worried about having to survive without coffee, and this turned out to be an unfounded concern).
We had an incredible and totally indulgent time at Kokuya. Experiencing a traditional ryokan is a privilege that you should try at least once if you can. And adding the Snow Monkeys in give the trip a double purpose, making it that much more memorable. The only thing that would have made the trip better is if we had been allowed to linger longer over every course of our dinner.

Приветливая хозяйка, аккуратный дом. Нас угостили чаем и булочками. Расположение очень удобно, возле вокзала.
Во дворе очень красивый пруд с рыбками кои.
Понравился опыт общественной ванны. Всего в рёкане 3 ванны: 2 общественные и 1 закрытая. Я посетила одну общественную, бассейн был на улице, что создавало дополнительную атмосферу этому месту.
Немного озадачило раннее выделение в 10 часов утра, но хозяйка любезно разрешила оставить наш багаж у нее на дольше

YYvesPIch habe nur eine Nacht in diesem schönen ryokan und in Yamanouchi geblieben, aber ich hätte leicht länger geblieben, da es scheint, trekking Möglichkeiten in der Gegend zu haben. Der ryokan selbst ist auf allen Ebenen groß: sauber, ruhig in der Nacht und hat ein authentisches Gefühl. Das Personal ist sehr hilfreich und spricht flüssig Englisch. Wenn Sie ankommen, wird es Ihnen traditionelle japanische Kleidung bieten, in denen Sie durch die Straßen wandeln, gehen zu Restaurants und vor allem, die 9 öffentliche und kostenlose Wandern im Dorf erkunden. Ich habe in einem 3-Bett-Schlafzimmer geschlafen und hatte nicht so gut für mehrere Tage geschlafen. Ein kostenloses Shuttle-Service bringt Sie zum nächsten Busbahnhof (Vielleicht auch Zugbahnhof)

TTatiana TsarevaОтличный рекан онсен. Очень вкусный ужин кайсеки и японский завтрак. Расположение отличное—пешком полчаса от вокзала и полчаса до парка обезьян. Можно бесплатно посетить 9 общественных бань. Онсен в отеле небольшой, но очень горячий, разбавляйте холодной водой, иначе можно ошпариться. Персонал иностранцы, отлично говорящие по внглийски. Вид из номера окна над рецепшеном выходит на знаменитый рекан. Раковины и туалет общие, но все рядом с номерами. Цена отличная. Очень рекомендую.

GGastnutzerLocated just within 3min from Yudanaka station, Raki Onsenryokan is run by a Chinese family. As a quiet town on its own, no one was tending to the reception when I arrived, after ringing the bell, a lady came down to help with the check in - very straightforward. I believe the family stays in the same building as they said if we ever needed anything, we could just ring the bell at the reception. Obviously I had booked a room too big for a solo traveller as this was the only room left as ”non-smoking”. Toilet and sink are at two different parts of the room which was a little inconvenient. Ryokan offers free drive (15min) TO snow monkey park, but not return, so please cater at least 35min to walk from park exit to the bus stop. Ryokan also provided a hearty breakfast, overall for the price paid it was a decent stay!

They gave me yukata and towel and changed it every day. I had a tea and enjoyed it on my balcony. I tried a futon at first time in my life.
I had my own reserved table for breakfast.
❗❗❗The hotel has its own bus with driver, which took me to the Snow Monkey Park and to the station for free!
Actually staff was so polite! It is seems like you are someone important.
Actually the only one minus that you can't go to all 9 Shibu Onsen's baths, but just to 9th bath only. But the hotel has its own bath even open-air.
It was really nice and comfortable accommodation.

GGastnutzerWe like both the services and the cleanliness of the room. However, the hotel needs to upgrade their bathroom and sink. You can't get a good warm temperature in winter when there are 2 taps, one for cold and one for hot. See the pictures attached. The rubber hose in one of our bathrooms broke. Fortunately, they could come immediately to replace it for us. Overall, the stay is ok, but we hope the hotel can upgrade the sink and bathroom.
