It pains me not to leave 5 stars but we just did not sleep 2 out of the 4 nights we stayed here and as somewhere to sleep is the primary reason to stay, I have to be honest. So the many good things: This is a lovely place in a quiet neighbourhood in old Bangkok. It's more like a guest house than a hotel. In the square in the afternoons there's music and communal exercise sessions, in the evening small local restaurants open up around the square, it has a real sense of community. The rooms are a little small and dark but they are in an old building so just take that as part of the charm. A little more lighting in the room might help. They were clean and the AC was quiet. The breakfast each morning was just amazing, with good coffee. Each day was 3 different items/courses, really tasty. The owners too were just so helpful, gave us some great tips. We did some washing there but I did not hear the quoted price when we handed it in, but it was expensive compared to outside but no problem, the price was given up front, my bad for not hearing it. So the reason to knock off 2 stars: When we checked in the owner asked us to walk quietly as it was an old building with wooden floors and noise travels. We completely understood and just walked around in bare feet/socks instead of slippers/flip flops we'd normally use. we spoke quietly and did not play any music etc. On the 2nd night at about 2am we heard the people downstairs speaking. It wasn't just muffled voices but loud/clear enough to comprehend the German. At one point the woman swore at the man in Spanish! (we both speak enough Spanish/German to understand). After 30 mins I just shouted out "QUIET!" to which they obliged. But 1 hour later/about 3.30am they were back talking to each other. Night 3 was quiet. Night 4 at 1 am we then heard a baby crying and the mother trying to console it (American this time!). No problem, babies just doing what babies do. Then after half hour, protests from a toddler (2nd child) that she was not tired and did not want to go to bed. Soon after the mother then started singing " the wheels on the bus go round and round......"..... at 2am. My only recourse now for sleep was to bang on the floor, it was then I noticed light from the room below streaming through the gaps in the floorboard, so no wonder the noise travels. If everything else wasn't great about this place, I'd probably leave 2 stars. I guess we were unlucky, most tourists are tired after sightseeing and the heat and just sleep and let others sleep peacefully.
