William Shield Festival 2024 - Breval Come join us at the Literary and Philosophical Society of Newcastle for a celebration of the renowned composer William Shield in 2024! The celebrated cellist, Gordon Dixon, makes a welcome return to the festival, performing sonatas by J. B. Breval (1756 – 1825). Breval, a Parisian cellist, was a contemporary of William Shield and was noted for sonatas which are vibrant and melodious. He will be joined by Davina Halford-MacLeod, a gifted young singer who is studying at Newcastle University’s International Centre for Music Studies.
