For me, hongcun was better than huangshan. the ticket is 104 yuan to enter (valid for 3 days) and not only is the city and lake beautiful, there are lots of shops to buy handmade shoes, clothes, baijiu and mijiu. be aware if you are booking a hotel inside the ‘hongcun scenic area’ then you will be buying to ticket to enter hongcun before you get to your hotel. I’d 100% trying 臭鳜鱼 the smelly mandarin fish and buying a litre of 米酒 the rice wine (approx 8%) as both are delicious!
l love this place so much! The feeling walking and exploring this village is amazing. It’s old and has a unique culture and history. l also love the architecture there. It is not a huge place, a day there would be great, but sleeping a night in the village is better as you can try some food and in the morning you can also enjoy a coffee as there is a coffee bar at the Moon Lake. l was impressed by this place, and l would love to visit it agan.
Hongcun Village which is a small village in Anhui province offers a lot to explore in term of culture and history. What l likes best about this place includes its narrow cobblestone paved lanes winding around boxy whitewashed buildings with pointed black tiled roofs offer a pleasant place. Here you can spend a few unhurried days in a beautiful part of rural China. Several larger residences reflect the wealth of its one time resident in the ornate carvings on every beam and column. Many of the buildings date back to the Ming and Qing dynasties and are regarded as the best examples of typical Anhui-style architecture.
