Interesting history
Never knew this before I came. In the 1850s there were 16500 Chinese landed here and took a 400 miles (?) journey on foot during the gold rush period...

Unusual monument in the South Australian town of Robe. Actually on the edge of the bay. Traditional Chines arch.
The Chinese Monument
Visited on Saturday 22nd February. We stopped to check it out, there is also an info board giving the Chinese connection to Robe there as well.
Fascinating!
From 1856 to 1863, 16,500 Chinese from China, walked 320kms from Robe to Ballarat and Bendigo! They landed in South Australia to avoid the 10£ landing fee imposed by the Victorian Govt to deter Chines...
