I think this is a very overrated attraction. To be honest, all the shops have the same things. It is also overpriced. There's not a variety to "shop" so to say. The buildings are pretty and aesthetic, but it's difficult to really admire the beauty of it with all the hussle and bussle. It is always crowded. It isn't something you should plan out of way to go and see, we stayed nearby so it was just to tick off the phuket to see list.
chose to stay in the old town on my first visit to Phuket, and glad I made the decision. lots of beautiful and colorful architecture, cool vibe in town, lots of cafe and places to eat. lots of shopping, and some interesting places as well, not just the usual tourist stuff. Read up on the history before you come, which explains the mix of cultures. worth a couple days stay, wandering around on foot, exploring. make sure to check out the street art as well!
Come to Phuket for the beaches, but don’t forget to visit Old Town for the history, culture, and food! Old Phuket showcases the colorful Peranakan style shophouses and offers a diverse array of food, including Western options, local Thai, Chinese, and even Mexican. We enjoyed some local Thai farm-to-table beef, Michelin star Thai food, Chinese dim sum, and traditional Phuket desserts.
