AAlanPBooked in for 1 night to have a rest in some luxurious surroundings after a lot of travelling around the country visiting friends. Hunday Manor is a beautiful old house in a fantastic spot on the side of a hill with a great view. The hotel is very well appointed and the rooms are well looked after. The quality of the food for both an evening meal and the cooked-to-order breakfast was excellent. Perhaps the only facility I would add is a few overnight EV charge points in the car park.
The service however was rather comical, starting with check-in. After confirming my name, 1 night stay, and printing out the reservation sheet, somehow the chap on reception muddled up my solo reservation with a couple arriving on the same day who were staying for a couple of weeks and gave me their room. After settling in for a much needed afternoon nap in the very comfortable bed and 'locking' the door on the inside, the rather startled couple walked in having been given a card for the same room. From that point on I never really managed to relax. I offered to move room when I went down for dinner later on, but the chap declined and mumbled something odd about the length of stay and seemed to point at the paperwork suggesting I had signed it making it my mistake! Sigh.
Things didn't get a lot better in the restaurant. Myself and another solo traveller were given tables at the back (by the same chap), seemingly to keep us out the way of the couples who arrived later and were seated at the windows. When either of us asked questions about the menu there was lack of understanding about the dishes.. I was then asked around half a dozen times by multiple staff if everything was ok. Meanwhile I could hear one of the couples quitely chatting about their room, no doubt the room I was in. Upon trying to put the bill on my room, the same chap from earlier left me at the bar with a card machine asking whether I wanted to add a tip.
At breakfast the next morning it continued. When I arrived the first breakfast room was full of tables needing clearing so I was given a table in the same area where I had dinner. This time given a table at the window but right in front of the only other guest, a lady already eating her breakfast. My table wasn't set so inexplicably the waiter clumsily took a second place-setting from her table while she was midway through eating! After dusting a few crumbs from one of the plates I enjoyed my breakfast. Towards the end of eating the staff were discussing how to rearrange the room for an event later in the day and started moving things around. After hearing the same couple from dinner asking to be told when their room was made available, cleaners were hanging around at the bottom of the stairs when I returned to the room. Nothing like a bit of a hurry up to finish breakfast and get out of your room to make you feel like a valued guest.
Upon check-out an apology and a chat but by then the damage was done. No offer to comp a drink (or dinne)r after making a mess of things either. It's a lovely hotel that could offer a real 5-star experience, but the service ended up more like an episode of Fawlty Towers and needs a bit of a rethink.
Next stop China.

GGastnutzerAlles war perfekt. Ich wollte ein Hausbett für die Nacht und das war voll. Schöne Willkommen und mehr Frühstück, als ich essen konnte! Eigentlich viel schöner als ich erwartet hatte, was immer ein Gewinn ist.

GGastnutzerGroßes Hotel, sauber und komfortabel! Der Badewanne ist heiß und sehr komfortabel. Selbsthilfe beim Aufenthalt, das Zimmerpasswort wird am Tag des Aufenthalts an der Postbox geschickt. Das gesamte Hotel ist ruhig, der Parkplatz ist ausreichend, unser zweites Zimmer ist sehr gut für eine dreifache.

GGastnutzerRum Doodle, well it was our first time at The Lakes and it certainly won't be our last! The location was just right with being part way between Windermere town and Bowness and was walkable to both. There were plenty of shops, bars and restaurants in walking distance as well as lake Windermere itself.
We found Rum Doodle with ease and was greeted at the door with a smile and friendly man (the owner but didn't catch his name). We were bought a fresh glass of apple and orange juice to our room which was refreshing after a long drive to Windermere. Our room was comfy, not too big or too small, a wardrobe, seating in the bay window, hairdryer, hot drink making facilities, wine glasses with cork screw and bottle opener. Very modern, clean and well presented bathroom with soft and fluffy towels, and a really nice shower. The bed was very comfortable and welcomed after a busy day exploring the surrounding area.
Breakfast was really good with cereal, fresh fruit and yogurt, toast, and then a choice of breakfast which were great too.
We had a pleasant and informative chat at breakfast with the lady that works there who gave us the heads up on some driving routes to try and avoid which was really useful.
After a day out exploring we went back to Rum Doodle to a cleaned room and freshly made bed with the tea and coffee replenished, so we were able to just drop and the bed with a nice cuppa and biscuit. Then out for a walk, some lovely food and a couple of drinks.
We couldn't recommend The Lakes and Rum Doodle enough! Well worth every penny

Room is as described. Heating was cranked up which we appreciated, but also had windows we could open. Great doorway location to the rest of the lake district.

GGastnutzerIch habe ernsthafte Missverständnisse über Hotels in den wirtschaftlichsten Teilen des Lake District, vor allem in Urlaubszeiten. Sie werden natürlich unaufhörlich überzogen, mit harsen und unfreundlichen Mitarbeitern. Ich wollte für eine Weile zurück in die Proper Lake District gehen, obwohl es ein Risiko auf dem Königs Kopf genommen hat. Es ist einfach auf dem Ohr zu finden, die Hauptstraße auf Grasmere, gerade über die beeindruckende Menge von Steel Fell, in der Nähe von Thirmere. Parkplatz überall in den Seen ist hideux und teuer. Nicht hier. Entspannt und reichlich Zimmer. Es ist ein langes Gebäude mit einem angenehme Bar-Restaurant und Biergarten. Ich fand eine ziemlich angenehme Wohnzimmer, wo eine Lady namens Jo mich incheckte und mich begrüßte. Es wird bemüht, den Handel zu verbringen, aber die Mitarbeiter schauen nach ihren Bewohnern. Sie flog mich anständige Realale und Jura-Whisky (das richtige Ding). Das Frühstück ist brischtisch aus einem Menü serviert und ist gut dargestellt. Ich habe sonst nicht gegessen, aber das Essen ist beliebt und gut gepreist. Die Straße draußen ist besetzt und ein bisschen rasch, und die gelegentliche Kampfflugzeuge rührt zwischen den Bergen auf niedriger Höhe, aber die unermüdliche Blässe der Schafe im Gegenteil bald wieder normal. Ich war ein wenig entschuldigt, aber der Manager sagte, er hoffte, ich würde wiederkommen. Ich glaube, ich werde, und ich werde sogar meine Frau bringen.

GGastnutzerHier ist wirklich ein guter Ort, obwohl es Selbsthilfe gibt, aber der Betreiber sollte chinesisch sein! Sie werden dort helfen und Sie haben irgendwelche Probleme, die ihn sofort ansprechen. Es ist wirklich toll, und das Zimmer ist auch sehr groß, und es ist sehr nah an jedem Ort. Also wenn es wieder hier ist, kann man wieder leben und sehr nah am See. Die Lage ist wirklich sehr bequem für einen 6-minütigen Spaziergang neben den Selbsthilfereisenden und auch sehr bequem.

DdrstcI'm originally from Kendal, but now live overseas. I stayed here to visit family locally and thought I'd treat myself to a nice hotel after not being back for several years. This place was NOT a treat.
On checking in, the reception staff member asked me to pay for my stay (obviously I'd already prepaid on trip.com). When I pointed this out, she became quite rude.
We were put in the room right next to the office, and we could hear the staff chatting at all hours. The noise in the corridor from other guests woke us up several times during the night (despite the ”Quiet” signage). There was a fire alarm at 6am the next morning. Everyone had to evacuate for a good 45 mins in the rain while we waited for the fire brigade...not even an offer of a free breakfast or coffee or anything afterwards.
There's no air con in the rooms, they're really small, the bathroom is tiny and there's not a lot of room to put your stuff. The à la carte restaurant is overpriced and the food was under/overcooked (how can you not know how to cook a potato?). Personally I'd not recommend this hotel when there's a Premier Inn in town...
