Room fine and clean enough . Beef was with a poor breakfast and service and being told you can’t have an extra sausage as the chef said you can’t which was very funny and pathetic at the same time !!

Overall wasnt a great stay, ill keep it short and sweet and list positives and negatives rather than go into detail
Positives - All staff friendly and helpful, nice location, if you can book a deluxe room so you get a first floor room with outside table and chairs and a view of the golf course. Treatment and spa faciltes were good though theres no jaqoozi. Comfy bed!
Negatives - Organisation, i had spa day and lunch, it wasnt explained about where lunch was or what was included i had to ask all the questions. I wasnt told the £15 limit for lunch so i went over and they then expected me to pay the difference but they agreed it was unfair. Room cleanliness, bathroom wasnt great, nail clippings on floor and 100’s of small hairs all around the bath after someones shave! Room was very warm and it wasnt even that hot outside, take a fan in hot weather! Food prices very high for what you get, nothing special! Took 30 mins to get my drink at dinner and 65 mins to get my burger and chips, apparantly staff were off sick and there was a new bar man who delayed drinks
I wouldnt go back for the price you have to pay and what you get

Last minute, this place is only good if you play golf. We arrived late, no water or biscuits in room, told it wasn’t included. Bed was too hard. Small bottle of water cost £3.50 only from the bar. Had a group of 30 men here, rude loud and disgusting.
Breakfast, not bad , anything from self service was hit hard by these men eating everything that was out. Not refilled. By staff until we were leaving.

Great location for a short break. Excellent leisure facilities. Not far from Shrewsbury which is definitely worth a visit being almost encircled by the River Severn. Look forward to staying again and exploring more of Shropshire.

Stayed here for a wedding at another local venue; on arrival at 12pm, my room was ready so was able to check in early with no problems. Staff were friendly and polite. Room was fine; comfortable and spacious. Overall, not a bad price for a Friday night.

Went to Hill Valley in August as a group of 14 for my Daughters Hen party. We all had a great time, all staff were friendly and helpful, rooms were large and comfortable, yes maybe a little bit tired, but clean and contained everything we needed for a fabulous weekend. We booked a two night spa break weekend and all enjoyed the spa treatments and the pool area. I must say a big thankyou to Sally from Hill Valley who delt with my group booking, everything was pre arranged for us, and the whole weekend ran smoothly. We all had an amazing weekend and though it was extremely good value.

We purchased a Golf break one night, two games of golf one on the Emerald one on the Sapphire Courses, bed and breakfast And £25 max evening meal We did arrive early. Reception was fantastic. Allow us to go to our room straight away two twins however they were both made up as Doubles so we had to go back down and get them swapped very apologetic and really quite helpful She did explain the golf courses have been closed due to weather which they can’t control a phone call to ask if you wanted to continue would’ve been nice as the courses were very boggy The hotel itself a little tired the stairway to the bedroom is just full of dead bugs all over the place. The rooms are quite basic. The shower was warm not hot overall tired. The service at the bar before we had dinner was great some nice communication from the Barman however I’m entering the restaurant we were just pointed to a table. They didn’t even ask our name gave us a menu. Told us would be back within a few minutes turned into a good 15-20 we had to ask a question you can’t get a lot for £25 basically just a main and then you will end up paying more which is okay. I would’ve preferred it beyond the beginning rather than the end. The food was exceptional just very slow coming out plates been taken away when we asked to see the desert menu we were left with the desert menus for good 2030 minutes we decided coffee we order the coffee and that took a long time in coming so the coffee was kind of warm not hot but that time of night, we were the last ones in the restaurant and really just wanted to go Breakfast was great offered whatever we wanted any changes to the menu they were very pleased to do that and service was superb Onto the Golf you can’t blame the hotel or the club for the golf courses being wet but they can help clear leaves. They can make sure facilities are on the tees like ball cleaning at the end of the day there’s nowhere to clean trolleys no air hoses a little disappointed these are supposed to be, Top courses The emerald course, some nice scenic holes and The sapphire course Tia just seemed better but less means is no path poor signage over two days adequate Golf bear in mind the conditions of the grass and disappointing feel due to the tightness of this four-star hotel

A very poorly managed hotel. Reception staff dismissive. disorganised and chaotic. Chairs, window sill and floor in bar filthy. Steam room floor dirty. Used vick inhaler left on ledge of steam room with no attendant available to clean or remove. Shambolic service in restaurant although food reasonable. We have never stayed in a hotel where we have been refused breakfast because it wasn’t pre booked. This happened to other guests too. Spa massage mediocre. All in all overpriced and dreadful.

Great golf course and facilities. With excellent friendly staff. An extra special mention for Kaela in the restaurant who looked after us very well. The spa and pool were very clean, and the golf massage special was excellent and good value. Good range of quality meals available in restaurant.

I've attended the hotel for a wedding recently and can say that the dining room, food and staff were brilliant, although drinks were very expensive and the hotel room was very dated and I wouldn't say is a 4* hotel. This review specifically focuses on Leisure Club at the Macdonald Hill Valley. This club is for guests of the hotel or paid membership is also available. I have been a paid member for almost 12 months now. Staff are generally nice and welcoming, the PT sessions whilst good are expensive at £30 an hour (it was cheaper at David Lloyd down south where I used to live) and the classes are good, albeit the popular ones such as Pilates and Yoga fill up quick and ate often fully booked. It's also frustrating the quarterly change of the timetable which means you get used to a class to find its then on a different day and time and you can't make it, but I also understand it's so people have the opportunity to attend classes. My main bugbear is the lack of investment and maintenance. Membership is expensive and yet some areas are really dilapidated, such as the steam room (missing tiles), the women's showers and the women's changing rooms (there has been a hole in the ceiling where you can literally see insulation and wires for at least 3 months. Some things are an easy fix but are just ignored, such as a broken hairdryer (one out of the three was broken). This was reported time and time again for at least a couple of months (you get to talk to people in the changing room and you realise then multiple people have reported it). It took almost two months for them to stick a sign up to say not to use the hairdryer and then a couple of weeks later it was removed. We are now 6 months down the line and no hairdryer leaving only 2 hairdryers which have definitely seen better days (no nozzle etc)! As an expensive paid for membership, I like that you didn't need a towel or to take shampoo, conditioner or shower gel as they have Elmis products. Unfortunately, now towels are only available at an additional cost and in the showers there is only shampoo and conditioner (if they have bothered to replenish them) and no shower gel so if you've done a workout or been swimming there is nothing to wash with. Again, through changing room discussions we know this has been reported by multiple people but it can take weeks for anything to happen when you see staff sitting at the Reception Desk on their phones. One body lotion has been empty for at least a month and the other was removed when empty and never replenished. It's as if they just don't want to replenish them. The lockers are a frustration for many....out of about 60 lockers there are only about 10 that work. It seems the digital locks have broken but these are never fixed. It's now firmly in my brain which number lockers work and don't. If they can't afford digital lockers just replace them all with a catch and let people bring a combination lock but it's a waste of space that is doing nothing and a

The room was large albeit a little tired but ok I didnt mind that. What I did mind was the electric heater in the bathroom having duct tape - this looked like a health and safety issue After dinner we asked for a coffee (it was on the menu) to be told that they had no coffee beans! However, we were able to have cafetière coffee for breakfast but no one seemed to want to go the extra mile to do that for after the meal. One of the meals arrived just as the others were finishing there own and then the waitress started to remove those that had already eaten - poor evening service. We mentioned that we were unsatisfied with the service but to no resolution was offered. Breakfast was excellent as was the service. The golf course was excellent The lounge areas were cold

Had a recent golfing trip to this establishment, the Hotel was of expected standard, the Hotel staff were very pleasant, welcoming and helpful, one lady by the name of Victoria at breakfast really could not have been more friendly and helpful and like the other staff we came across inside the Hotel, was a fine representative of the establishment, We played both courses, we enjoyed playing the Emerald course, the shorter course which is called Sapphire was, in relation to what one is entitled to expect, outrageously poor, the tees were poorly maintained, the markings as to where each hole was were practically non existent, the fairways were extremely average and the greens were, on occasions, the worst we have ever experienced. We reported our disappointment and thoughts about this particular course to the lady who was working in the pro shop which, I have to say, got an unenthusiastic, and I’m being kind, indifferent response. This second round on this course therefore totally spoilt our visit.

We arrived at 11.30 and receptionist was lovely and kept our case till our room was ready and pointed us in the Spa direction. Spa day supplied robe and slippers and staff showed us around and explained where to be for our treatments. Pool and Steam Room etc were fairly quite first thing, got busier later on. Everything was lovely, relaxation room could have done with some fruit/nibbles as I've had in other spa places, be a nice touch. We had lunch in the bar area and were served promptly, tables looked over the golf course which was nice. Our room was on the 3rd floor and had been upgraded by Spa Breaks, it looked over the golf course with a Juliette balcony, really good, sized twin bed room and bathroom. Dinner was lovely and you were allocated £25 towards dinner, the chicken and leek pie was delicious, drinks esp the wine was pricy. Breakfast again was lovely but missed a few basics like baked beans Definitely recommend

I stayed here last weekend with a group of friends. Upon arrival, the reception staff were very friendly and although we arrived at around d 10am, we were given entry to our room. We had a club view room which came with two large twin beds and a Juliette balcony over looking the course. The room has everything you could need including tea and coffee making facilities and ice bucket. The rooms were finished to a high standard and the beds were very comfortable. We ,are use of the spa through the day which included a swimming pool, sauna and steam room. Only thing that lets this down is no jacuzzi/ hot tub. We also had massages in the afternoon which were amazing! We all had our own personal masseuse and each treatment was tailored specifically to us. In the afternoon we had lunch in the bar. Unfortunately, the food did take a long time to arrive even though we had all had sandwiches and a bowl of chips. All food was lovely. In the evening we had a meal in the restaurant. A good choice to suit everyone on the menu and at decent prices. All food tasted lovely and would definitely recommended, All in all, a great place to visit and will definitely visit again.

Me and my partner came for an Essential Spa Weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the spa was lovely and stocked my favourite products, and the massages given were great. The food was wonderful. We both had chicken wings to start for our evening meals followed by Pork Belly and a Shin Beef then the breakfast was in the morning was presented beautifully and the quality of the food couldn’t be faulted. My only gripe was that our room was facing the housekeeping office and when housekeeping started their shift in the morning they were not quiet at all, doors slamming, hoovers being pulled on to corridors and team members laughing amongst themselves, at 8:30 in the morning you would think they would be more aware that guests are asleep in the rooms around them.
