30. November 2021
Four of us stayed here for two nights late November ’21 for a short visit to the area to eat good food and do some champagne tastings/purchasing. We have visited Epernay many times but this was the first (and last) time at the Premiere Classe Epernay. This is a budget hotel and at around £35.00 per night expectations aren’t too high. The good points, rooms were clean, bed linen nice and fresh, polite and attentive staff, and the few Euros for a cold buffet breakfast was good. The not so good point was just one. Despite signs everywhere banning smoking, the whole hotel smells of cigarette smoke! We asked for rooms on the top floor at the end of the corridor, this request was met with nicely, unfortunately both rooms completely stank of tobacco, we walked in and walked out again. Reception were very accommodating and offered us two other rooms, these we took but very quickly realised there was still aromas of smoke. Our friends room had a slight smell of stale cigarette smoke, our shower room stunk, which is odd as they are a plastic pod style, I can only assume the tobacco has ingrained everywhere, highlighted by the cigarette shape burn in the plastic floor. In short, what could be a nice, clean, no-frills budget hotel is completely let down by the no smoking rule not being enforced. We won’t be staying here or risking any other Premiere Classe hotel again.
