We stayed for 2 nights. It’s a very quirky B and B, comfortable, clean, interesting, some slightly unexpected features but none the worse for that. Immaculate service by the chatelaine. Lovely walks on the doorstep. Beautiful traditional sitting and dining rooms and masses of outdoor space. 4 Horseshoes pub in walking distance, reasonable food and good local beer.

Right, if you expect a "normal" hotel experience, don't stay here. If however you want to experience what I imagine it would be like to stay in one of Her Majesty's hunting lodges, and the Queen herself will serve you, then this is the place to come. It's quite an experience! The room was very comfy, quiet and clean, even rather quaintly were some pyjamas laid out to use on the bed. I am laughing as I type this thinking about why the toilet was in a cupboard and the sink was in another cupboard because when converting the room for guests, the aesthetics would be spoiled if the original cupboards were removed and the fact that the lavatory sounded like Concorde taking off when flushed. It's all part of the experience. It was quite Downton Abbey, I imagine that it hadn't changed much in 100 yrs and would have loved to have had a good nose about but felt a bit like I would be intruding so didn't. I probably will next time. The food in the morning was first class and the whole experience was quite surreal but very enjoyable. The escapism from the normal hotel experience is worth it and if you want to experience what being Lord Grantham would be like, you have to stay here. I hope to be sent to Eye again soon so I can rebook.
