I'm a loyal Kimpton customer and was excited to see a Kimpton opening in San Antonio. After staying here for two nights on a recent visit, this hotel doesn't feel like a Kimpton. Everything was nice and new and the service was good overall, but it had more of a generic Marriott or Hyatt feeling. The other Kimptons I've visited have more soul and they also have amenities and service that are distinct in some way. The staff at the Santo were nice enough but didn't seem fully trained on their systems and had trouble doing basic things like programming the room key, finalizing our bill when we checked out, etc. They also tried to double charge us for breakfast, which was included with our room rate. I should also mention there is a lot of construction on the streets around the hotel as well as inside the hotel, which wasn't noisy at all, but it was challenging to access the hotel's entrance and the building just had an unfinished feel to it. One final comment: We booked a "hemisphair suite" because the description on IHG's website mentioned a soaking tub and also showed a photo of a nice, deep tub. When we checked out, I mentioned that I was disappointed there was no tub in our room and I showed the staff the description on the IHG website. One of them (who seemed to be a manager) was apologetic and said they will have that description corrected immediately. He even wrote a note for himself so he'd remember. The misleading description still appears on their site five days later. The bottom line: Our stay was good but not great. I sure hope this isn't the direction Kimpton is going with its brand because there are enough generic corporate hotels in the world.
