Wild Mushroom Country House

Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt sehr genossen. Von der fantastischen Aussicht, den köstlichen Frühstücksoptionen und der Honesty Bar gibt es für unseren Komfort nichts, worüber wir uns beschweren könnten. Vielleicht wäre es nur besser, nach 18 Uhr, wenn sich das Personal abends zurückzieht, eine Mikrowelle zur Verfügung zu stellen, um das Essen aufzuwärmen. Abgesehen davon haben wir einen außergewöhnlichen Service erhalten und würden diesen Ort anderen empfehlen, die einen ruhigen Rückzugsort suchen.

We had a great stay in this lovely hotel. The check in was quick and efficient, the room spacious and well appointed with working air-conditioning and a good size bathroom with both a bath and separate shower. We had a nice little terrace outside our room to admire the views from too. There was a nice clean pool with ample sun loungers and the views from the property are superb. The hotel is located a simple 10 minutes drive from the centre of Stellenbosch town centre, on a secure estate surrounded by some beautiful homes. There is a security access gate which is manned 24 hours a day by the most lovely team of guards we came across during our 5 weeks visit to SA. Always friendly, once you complete the initial check before checking in to the hotel, a simple wave of your room key and they let you in with a cheery smile - very different to some of the other access staff we encountered at other places. Breakfast was pleasant enough, with excellent coffee but at times service was a little slow. There's also an honesty bar if you fancy a drink at any time. The only thing that could have made the stay better, was if there had been an on-site restaurant for the evening but as mentioned, it's only 10 minutes into Stellenbosch. Overall we would definitely return and recommend.

Our stay at The Wild Mushroom Luxury Country House was a mix of highs and lows. Upon arrival, we were checked into a room where the air conditioner was broken—something the Assistant Manager was aware of before assigning it to us. After bringing this to their attention, we were moved to what they described as "the third-best room in the hotel," which was spacious and comfortable. The highlight of our stay was the breakfast: a delicious cook-to-order experience with exceptionally friendly and attentive staff. The location is another major plus, conveniently situated near various wine estates and just 10 minutes from Stellenbosch's center. The gated community provides a secure setting, and we also appreciated the excellent laundry service. Unfortunately, the property seems to have seen better days. There is noticeable deferred maintenance, which may be attributed to the challenges of the COVID-19 era when tourism was restricted, and government support was lacking. More concerning, however, is the lack of cleanliness and the overall absence of hospitality beyond the breakfast team. The basics of warm, welcoming service were largely missing, leaving the experience feeling impersonal. Overall, while the property has potential, it needs significant improvement to live up to the "luxury" in its name.
