First visit to Malta for our wedding anniversary so decided to book the ‘Presidential Suite’ to mark the occasion. Not quite as grand as it sounds as the hotel has only 14 rooms, but we did have the entire fourth floor to ourselves, including our own roof terrace with table and chairs, loungers, and also a hot tub. Well worth the slightly additional expense, and the complimentary bottle of wine waiting for us was a nice touch. Super comfortable bed, large bathroom with good shower, and a massive smart TV screen. There was also small kitchenette with oven and fridge if required. There was a decent continental self-service breakfast option with gluten and dairy-free choices. This is available until 10:30 although we never felt rushed. The hotel has only been open since February and is finished to a high standard. It is also very clean. On arrival you receive a unique key code for both the main entrance and your room. One thing I would add, which may be important for some, is that there is no presence on site 24 hours each day although either Matthias the manager, and/or a lovely young intern named Manon were there every morning and couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful. By the time we left, they were our friends. The hotel is located on a very quiet street in Sliema, so if you want to visit Valletta (which is essential really) it means either catching a bus or the ferry. The latter is by far the best option, and we enjoyed doing this every day of our stay. The ferry is less than a 10 minute walk from the hotel and takes just five minutes to get across. Ferries run every 30 minutes. Fare is €2 each-way (slightly cheaper for a return), and if visiting either Gozo or the Three Cities there is shuttle bus available to take you across Valletta to the Grand Harbour for €1. I recommend it, especially if you don’t fancy the steep climb up into Valletta. Personally I wouldn’t enjoy driving around Sliema or Valletta as the roads are very steep and narrow, and parking looked a nightmare (if you insist, hire the smallest car available and check the insurance). The Sliema bus station is close to the hotel, but Valletta is the main hub. All bus fares are €2 single. We took a bus to Mdina which took 40 mins and quickly became full, so get on at the bus station to ensure a seat. The FastFerry to Gozo was €7.50 each way and a good option if you just want to go there, although lots of charter ferries are also available if you want to visit Comino and the Blue Lagoon. All in all, a lovely visit. Malta is beautiful and everyone is very friendly. I can’t recommend this hotel enough, and I don’t think it will remain a “hidden gem” for much longer!
