Ein Traum!!! Vom Zimmer über den Service, das Essen, Wellness, es war einfach rundum perfekt. Nachhaltiger Luxus, es gab nichts in Plastik verpackt. Überall gab es Wow Effekte. Wir hatten einen Shuttle vom Flughafen Porto bis zum Hotel. Bei schönem Wetter kann man gut wandern oder Velo fahren. Es gab viel Programm, leider konnten wir nicht alles machen.

MAGICAL!!!!! Get there as early as you can on day you arrive and leave as late as you can on day you depart !!! The most beautiful sumptuous breakfast will leave you full all day !! Check the schedule for different free and charged activities from pickle making to wine tasting to electric bikes and boat rides. Spa is amazing. Indoor pool almost as nice as outdoor pool. We didn’t want to leave! Pricey but worth it !

Marvellous hotel. Luxurious/ relaxed. Located in a marvellous area, surrounded by vineyards and the River Douro as a backdrop. The staff are fantastically friendly and professional, the decor is beautiful, everything has been thought out in detail. The rooms are fantastic, luxurious and very cosy. The food is excellent, with plenty of choice. Finally, I couldn't go without mentioning the swimming pool. Very well framed by the surrounding vineyards and the Douro river as a backdrop. A place to return to again and again...

First visit to a Sixth Senses resort and it was such a treat and memorable stay. Nestled in the Douro Valley, it sits on a lovely estate of a historical stately manor house. Rooms are tastefully low key in dark wood and our suite faced the Douro which offered rich colors of late fall, misty mornings and golden dusk of vine covered terraces. We had breakfast and dinner at the Vale de Abraao restaurant and the food was good. Unfortunately our eggs service one morning took some time when the house was very full. Tapas dinner at the Wine Library and Terrace was also delicious. We had drinks on two evenings at the bar and played pool. The resort offers daily activities including forest walking, tree climbing, yoga, scent making amongst others. The 2 highlights of the resort must be the indoor pool and spa. The spa offers 6 different saunas and sumptuous face and body treatments with very skilled therapists. We thoroughly enjoyed the massages! The fitness centre was well equipped and overlooks the pool. My favourite memory will always be the 2 resident dogs, Agua and Foxey. Well loved by staff and guests. Finally the delightful staff of the resort were warm and friendly, service was tiptop.

Loved every minute. Fantastic reception and everyone is so polite and cordial. The room is awesome with all the amenities you will need. Love the swimming pool and the views. The service is top notch as so is the food. I will come back for sure, for one more SPA treatment and to enjoy this great hotel!

Beautiful hotel but still wouldn’t rank it with the top tier Amalfi Coast hotels. Pool service was 2.5 out of 5. Beautiful grounds and great food. Walking distance to neighbor hotel and winery. For the price, the value is so so. Still recommend though.

Place is great however major issue- ihg marketing this property and you will spend a small fortune. When you check out they tell you they are not participating in the ihg points program. Big problem! When you call ihg to complain - they have untrained reps unable to assist you. Extremely disappointed considering ihg emails the property and it is false advertising.

I have been a fan of Six Senses and thoroughly enjoyed Yao Noi in Thailand. However, I couldn’t help but be disappointed by the Douro Valley one. First off the prices were off the chart expensive. Having paid over €7,000 for a room for three nights I was then surprised to be told it didn’t include breakfast and so it was another €300 to add breakfast - a great welcome! The building and location are beautiful but the hotel looks under maintained. There was damp in the room and the air conditioning created a pool of water on the floor overnight. I advised reception and they came quickly to fix it but on our return from breakfast we found our room door ajar with nobody inside. Usually service at Six Senses is brilliant and the Portuguese are good at it but the staff at Douro Valley were elusive and many seemed poorly trained. They got my lunch order wrong on all three days - once bringing me something that wasn’t even on the lunch menu. It is a shame because I can see how this could be a great hotel, I don’t know whether the issue lies in the local management or with the ultimate owner, IHG, forcing cut backs but I would prefer a Four Seasons or to spend time somewhere like La Residencia in Mallorca which looks much better value. I will think twice before going back to a Six Senses hotel.
