I chose this hotel for it's appeal with location, and access to the spa facilities. Whilst the price of £190 for a double B&B rate was steep, I was hoping it would leave us feeling rejuvenated. We are a family of 4 with 2 children, therefore 2 rooms at that price each. Some simple tweaks would improve the experience. For example, the warm welcome was tarnished when the receptionist declared the total amount to pay so my family heard. This would be best left discrete for a host of reasons. The rooms were spacious, but dated - there's no plugs next to the beds, and the ones in the room are not USB, so you need your charger plug (as well as cable). Breakfast was ok - cooked buffet, fruit salad, toast, mini pastries (that looked dry), and cereals. They only had soup bowls or plates, no fruit/cereal bowls. The spa facilities were clean, and functional. I noticed others were given a jug of water and disposable cups, though we were not. There was no water fountain to either top up own bottles or the jugs - this would be a simple and effective solution. Very limited relaxing chairs by the pool - I noted 2 that had foot rest, and 6 standard wicker chairs only. There were no stools to perch on whilst drying your hair and it had no ventilation rendering the mirrors too steamed up to see. I was quite shocked a 4**** hotel and spa used a green wheelie bin for clients to put their used towels in. It just didn't exude spa class with that finish. Sadly, it wasn't worth the price for us.

Booked an afternoon( I’m gluten-free) when it came I had 3 sandwiches, a scone and the cakes were from Tescos packs, angel cake, brownie and macaroon. Very disappointed The spa is basically a swimming pool with a sauna, very dated, The manager said he will inform the chef and it will improve

Calling this hotel a Spa hotel makes it sound really glam but it is more faded glory and relies on name and reputation. It does seem to be very popular with coach tours for older clients. The reception area is OK and the welcome was friendly and helpful. The public areas are quite grand looking but it is really old fashioned and shabby. as it is advertised as a spa hotel, I was expecting a really lovely gym and spa area. The pool certainly did look lovel but the gym is pathetic. It has a few cardio machines, two cable machines and a handful of free weights. I guess it’s not bad for hotel guests but for local people paying membership prices for such such a gym I would think I’d been very short changed. It was quite a small room as well and not very attractive. We ate in the bistro bar one evening and the food there was nice although the service was not that friendly. Breakfast was served in a bigger restaurant with the Tour groups eating in one area and individuals in another. The buffet breakfast was quite comprehensive and a decent quality. Our room was of an average size and rather shabby in places . They have put wallpaper on a lot of the woodwork and as that gets shabby it’s not so easy to replace if it was painted instead they could cover it up more easily. We were on the fourth floor so although there was a window it wasn’t very easy to see outside because it was very high. The bed was extremely soft and not that comfortable. There was a desk with a chair, but I had to move the chair in order to round at night for the toilet. The bathroom was a good size and modern. There was a bath and a separate shower cubicle, which was efficient. There was a shelf above the toilet for storing wash bags, etc. However, the housekeeping was not that good because we had run out of tissues and toilet paper which they did not replace and they muddled up our towels so we didn’t know who’s they were, So we had to ask for more which we don’t normally like to do as we can reuse them. I would stay here again, but would look for an alternative first .

Stayed here for four nights on a coach tour with David Ogden Holidays with my elderly parents. Have to say the couch tour was brilliant but I feel several points let the hotel down. First before the holiday was booked we confirmed due to disability that a walk in shower was required, but I was put in a room with a shower over a bath so immediately had to go back down to reception after what was initually a superfast check in. First I was told all rooms fully booked and that they had not been aware of request. I did have written confirmation though and so amazingly a room was found. Room 101. The room left a lot to be desired, very dark and dingy. It was very dated, damaged fittings, carpet needed a wash and there was absolutely nothing to see out of the window other than 3 walls. Couldn't even see the sky. The TV came on for 5 mins but then would freeze and go off so gave up with that. On the plus side, everything was very clean and it had a beautiful up to date bathroom. The room was made up every day, with fresh towels and tea, coffee, milk etc. Mum and Dad's room 125 the toilet would not flush. This was reported 3 times from the day we arrived Sunday and eventually after complaining to a manager Carlos, was fixed on the Wednesday! There were a lot of complaints flying around whilst we were there. It is a very old hotel which needs a lot of upkeep which has obviously been let go over the years. The manager explained they have been taken over now by another company and upgrading will be happening gradually. I have to say the staff were all extremely nice and helpful. I would like to put a special mention in for receptionist Sophie who has incredible customer service skills. I saw her put up with so many complaints and she was patient, understanding and although she could only do so much she tried her best with a smile every time. Thank you. The restaurant and meals were great. Plenty of choice, large portions. Buffet breakfast, had everything laid on. Its a shame the Hotels maintenance upkeep let's it down, because if it could be reinstated to its obvious former glory it would be beautiful.

Just popped in this afternoon to see if we could get a coffee to break up a very long drive home. Would throughly recommend you checking this place out. We ended up have lunch, we just went for a sandwich and panini, really good value and very tasty. Staff friendly, loos clean and car park free. It’s full of charm and obviously a popular choice as there were plenty of people there today. We will definitely use this as a pit stop next time we’re passing through.

My main words to describe this whole place would be “traditional”. The staff were really friendly, the rooms were fine, if not a little dated, and the food was really pleasant. Service was really good from the start to finish and the food was very much like home-made , mum’s type dinner! Rooms in general are in dire need of refurbishment - not because they are worn, but because they are just very, very traditional. If you expect a warm welcome, home-made food, traditional rooms and a super publication you won’t go far wrong. Dinner was traditional, three course and cost just over £30 per person

Have just spent 4 nights at the Metropole. The heating was not on for the first 3 nights and our room was very cold. The dinner served in the restaurant was cold and service very slow. Dinner was listed as 7.00 p.m. for our party and it was 9.00 p.m. by the time our meal was over. The hotel does not warrant its 4 stars

Yet another brilliant conference experience at the Metropole. Ok, the temperature is erratic in the conference rooms but it’s clean and welcoming with friendly staff and more food than anyone needs and all of a very fair quality. There’s ample parking and the location is lovely. I can’t wait to visit again:-)

The Metropole takes advantage of the fact that there is little competition in Llandrindod Wells. Three of us stayed while visiting friends. We had no problem paying more for an independent hotel but it just wasn’t worth it. The hotel was probably lovely in it’s day, but now it’s just tired and past it’s best. Our rooms were all very dark and sparse with mismatched decor. The mattresses were hard and thin like camp beds. There were no USB ports in the rooms and only 1 double electric socket. The socket was under the tv so phones cannot be charged by the bedside. The hairdryer was on a curly cord that had to be fully stretched to dry hair in front of the mirror - so not comfortable by any means. There was a thermostat on the wall, and the general information sheet in the room which stated that the temperature could be controlled. My thermostat didn’t work so I asked about it at reception. I was told that the hotel heating came on automatically - so obviously we can’t control our room temperature after all. I was offered a fan but as there were so few sockets, I had to plug it into the tv electric socket so couldn’t watch tv when the fan was on. Bathroom lights are on a sensor so it’s like the floodlights coming on if you spend a penny during the night. You can’t turn off the light as there’s no switch and it takes a good few minutes to go off by itself. In my room, the bathroom light flickered on and off for a good 8 seconds before going off - it was like a horror movie! The bathroom was clean and bright and has obviously been put in fairly recently. The plumbing groans but that’s as you’d expect from an old building and wasn’t a problem for us. I mentioned the flickering bathroom light to reception as I checked out. There was no apology, and the receptionist didn’t ask if it affected my stay. She just said she’d mention it to maintenance. The food was good, we had some lovely sandwiches at lunchtime and our evening meal in the brasserie was hot and plentiful. Breakfast was also good. Staff weren’t particularly smiley although the bar and brasserie staff were certainly more friendly than reception. Previous reviewers have made similar comments. I wonder how long the manager will thank us all for our feedback without doing something about it? As it stands, The Metropole isn’t value for money.
