This was a very poor experience for a very well-behaved school group. Staff were unhelpful, with the exception of a few waiting staff. The hotel manager was extremely reluctant to turn on the air conditioning even though the bedrooms were stiflingly hot and mosquito screens were in bad condition, coming off the rails and some having holes in them. There was no tea/coffee/bar availability in the evening. No additional water was provided for our pupils unless they wished to pay €4 per litre bottle. We were told they could purchase it at the supermarket. Some of our group had no hot water, for showers either early in the morning or late in the evening. The safes in some of the rooms were unusable, some fridges did not work and fixtures were in poor condition. No kettles were available to make our own tea/coffee even though they were seen in a store cupboard towards the end of our visit. The food deserves its own chapter! Breakfast was extremely basic and not at all adapted for Irish/UK teenagers - no juice, no fruit, no yoghurt, no toast, no eggs and bacon etc! Our pupils did see all of the above set out for other breakfast guests in another breakfast area so future guests should check the breakfast menu before visiting. What is published on the website is very different to the visit! The evening meal was very hit and miss. The pasta course worked pretty well but the "secondo piatto" was usually lukewarm, if not cold. Veal burgers and wet chips, processed potato puree and greasy pork escalopes were particularly memorable evenings, for the wrong reasons! WiFi coverage in the hotel was patchy, to say the least. We also had the experience of the night porter telephoning rooms to complain about pupils making noise at 10/10.30pm when it was not loud at all. As a school group, providing good revenue for this hotel, we were treated like second-class citizens. This hotel needs a complete overhaul of its management and attitude towards paying customers as the location is excellent for visiting Pompeii and Naples.
