Let me start by saying that we love this place, particularly the setting in the mountains and next to the Chirripó River. We had stayed here before (River Cabin, the absolute best) in 2022 and absolutely loved our experience, as stated in my previous review of this place. This time however, things were not so great. We were place in the MotMot cabin, which has an amazing setting with glass back doors that open to a nice little balcony overlooking [art of the property and a bit of the river. The cabin had a nice hot tub outside in the fenced, private patio. The room has everything to make for a memorable stay. However, the room faces east and by 0900 the room turns into an absolutely, hellishly hot greenhouse. The curtains do not help as they are neither light blocking or heat blocking and no matter how much run the oscillating, pedestal fan is not enough. We opened the windows to let the air in and left doors open to get a cross breeze to no avail. The room did not cool off until past 9:00 P.M. and it was very uncomfortable. The cabin had other problems as well, all of which were reported by ust timely to the hotel. There is an ant problem in the bathroom (large, dark brown) that looked like Carpenter Ants; they seemed to be particularly attracted to soft, wet wood. However, by far the biggest problem was the termite problem. The cabin is absolutely being pulverized by the termites and their constantly dropping poop. It got very bad and we had to constantly shake our clothes and shoes to get rid of the "sandy" droppings. Even though we stated this on day one, there was not even an offer to do anything about it other than apologizing for our "inconvenience". This was not an inconvenience, this was not right and something needed to be done, but alas, nothing was. We also noticed that the quality of the food was not the greatest. The food lacked taste, flavor, spices, anything. It was well presented, don't take me wrong, but it was bland, particularly at $90.00 for two people. We asked whether they had hired a new chef since last time we were there, because the food actually made us unwell with severe indigestion after dinner every single night for the first two nights. In their defense though, I will say that food in Costa Rica was pretty awful, no matter where we went. No exceptions! We met the owner, a very affable gentleman who chatted with us for a few minutes, and who came to dinner with his lovely family at the restaurant the last two days of our stay. When the owner and his family were there, the quality of the food vastly improved and none of the indigestion problems that happened before took place again. I think that given the level of issues the cabin had and what we experienced, I would have hoped that the hotel would have handled things better instead of the customary "we are sorry for your inconvenience" (not getting ice in my water is an inconvenience, getting termite poop all over my clothes and other items goes beyond that.
