Lankavatara offers a peaceful, secluded escape. The beach is beautiful and, for most of our stay, we had it almost entirely to ourselves. Do be aware that the sea is very rough, so it’s generally not suitable for swimming. The rooms have a rustic charm with basic amenities. While comfortable enough, I personally wouldn’t rate the property as a 4-star hotel. The Wi-Fi was also quite weak, which may be worth considering if you need a reliable internet connection. The staff were always willing to help when asked, although the service sometimes felt a little disingenuous and not always delivered with genuine warmth. Food service could also be quite slow at times, so it’s best to allow plenty of time for meals. One of the highlights of our stay was the surrounding area. A special mention goes to Upoint Restaurant, which serves exceptional home-cooked Sri Lankan seafood. The hosts there were incredibly welcoming and made for a memorable dining experience. Overall, we had a lovely stay. If you’re looking for a quiet, unspoilt beach, simple accommodation, and don’t mind a more relaxed pace of service, Lankavatara is a pleasant place to unwind.

The owner was very helpful. He was eager for me to sign up with a Safari tour that he organized and said that I could check out later which I appreciated. The tour was a little disappointing though as the breakfast he mentioned was not what I received. I was.however happy that he prepared some food when I arrived as I said that I wouldn't be able to eat the hotel breakfast that I paid for. The sheets had marks on them and I saw big cockroaches. There was no air-conditioning so the room was a bit stuffy.

Das Hotel liegt mitten im Yala-Nationalpark und bietet eine wunderschöne Landschaft. Allerdings sind die Einrichtungen und die Auswahl an Restaurants begrenzt. Wir hatten extra ein Abendessen am Meer gebucht, was ein schönes Erlebnis war; das Essen war gut und der Kellner sehr freundlich. Der Check-in am ersten Tag verlief zufriedenstellend und Trinkgeld war angebracht. Der Nachteil war später der mangelhafte Service. Am zweiten Tag wurde zwar unser Frühstücksbestell serviert, aber die Getränke fehlten. Wir konnten keinen Kellner erreichen, obwohl das Restaurant klein war. Saft und Tee kamen nie an. Um es noch einmal zu betonen: Der Service war wirklich unzureichend. Wir hatten als Mitglieder einen späten Check-out beantragt, erhielten aber keine Antwort und auch keinen Rückruf, obwohl uns dies zugesagt worden war. Schließlich mussten wir mittags auschecken, was uns sehr gehetzt vorkam.

Hidden away in the jungle, the hotel is beautiful and peaceful. We stayed in the king suite with our own pool and spa and it was the perfect spot to wind down after an active week of climbing, walking and safaris. We happened to be the only guests on our night stay and everyone made it a lovely experience with taking us for a walk around the lake to see the local wildlife and cooking a bbq right outside our room. Will definitely stay here again should I find myself back in Sri Lanka.

Der Service war hervorragend. Die Angestellten waren hilfsbereit und freundlich. Da Nebensaison war, wurden wir sehr aufmerksam bedient. Der Strand bot eine sternenklare Nacht – friedlich und wunderschön. Obwohl das Hotel um 18 Uhr schließt, sind wir trotzdem noch einmal hinausgegangen, um die Sterne zu bewundern. Der Pool ist lang und ideal zum Bahnen schwimmen. Die Speisekarte bot eine gute Auswahl, und das Essen war lecker. Was uns jedoch nicht gefallen hat, waren die zusätzlichen Steuern neben der Mehrwertsteuer und der Servicegebühr. Dadurch wurde die Gesamtrechnung zusätzlich zu den ohnehin schon höheren Preisen im Vergleich zu anderen 5-Sterne-Hotels, die wir besucht haben, stark erhöht. Es wurden also noch einmal 33 % auf die ohnehin schon hohen Preise der Speisekarte aufgeschlagen.

We booked this at the last minute due to a change of plans and so just went by the previous reviews but we are so glad we did! It’s a small hotel but with lovely large rooms with private pools.  We loved the sunset walk to the beautiful wild beach and our trip to Yala.  We didn’t have any problems with wildlife in the shower and loved the feeling of being in such a natural environment.  The real selling point of the hotel however is their staff and every one of them went out of their way to help us have a great stay.  Thanks again!

We stayed here for 2 nights, it was a slightly older property but the owner and family were so helpful and lovely. The pool was great and the Yala national park was fun

A wonderful family run establishment. I was very ill during my stay and the owner took me to his doctor friend and pharmacy and took care of me. The room is comfortable and it has a nice sitting balcony. Its very very quiet and easy to sleep. Its 10 mins by tuk tuk to tissa lake and the safari is not far. They offer safari services although I didn't use. Wifi available. Lots of plugs in the room. Breakfast is flexible and accommodating. The family is so kind and warm. Highly recommend staying here.

We stayed here before a trip to Yala national park. The hotel property is quaint and charming. We took pictures of monkeys and peacocks near the hotel’s river bank and trees. Our room was basic, but clean and comfortable. The shower had hot water, but barely any pressure available. Internet was inconsistent and did not work for the first few hours.  The staff were friendly and did their best to communicate with us and meet our needs. They helped us arrange private transportation to and from the international airport and local safaris with third-parties.  We had two meals cooked by our hostess. Our first meal there was excellent with many fresh, local dishes. However, the second meal was simply rice and overcooked chicken, which we struggled to finish. That meal was double the first meal’s price. Also, meal prices were not disclosed until checkout, when we were surprised with a disproportionately large bill, charging us equally for our two meals as our two-night stay in the room. Our fault for not asking first, I suppose, but I felt taken advantage of and it soured our experience.
