Floral hotel Nanjing review
Hotel has unique character. Located in a private complex so it is quieter with no public car / scooter allowed to get in.
Kids are happy playing and running outside the complex. Very clean, quiet and charming area.
Location: fantastic location at laomendong old town (3 mins walk to the main old town - all the main actions), 10 mins walk to the city wall.
We arrived at night and it was late (11pm) so it was a bit hard to find the accomm. 3 luggages and 2 kids made it hard-but I imagine using taxi outside the airport would make it easier and more convenience. The taxi will drop you off just outside the complex. It was 2 mins walk to the hotel. The hotel is easily found inside the complex. Check in process is super easy.
To travel around, there are 2 metro stations you can use. We usually use the wumending stations - around 15-25 mins walk depending on the kids mood. However we never have problem commutting. The walk to the station is dotted with shops (food, snacks, convenience stores).
Room: Clean, spacious and modern
A family of four.
We have plenty of space. Amenities are very modern. Plenty of storage space inside the toilet for your toileteries.
Bed is massive (king size) and comfortable.
We booked 2 beds to accommodate our family.
Daily housekeeping and water bottles replacement.
Communication:
The owner will add you on wechat on check in day. All communication can be done via wechat. The translation app in wechat is a god sent. The staff has minimal english - but we dont have any problem communicating through wechat conversation. You can ask them for information etc through wechat. They will reply straight away.
Services:
Impeccable, above and beyond.
The owner and all of the staffs are super helpful. Always keen to help. The owner took and showed us the restaurants around laomendong which are worth going - as there are plenty of restaurants around the areas.
Because it is a boutique hotel, the service is very personalised.
Breakfast:
Set meal for breakfast every morning. Serve at 8am. It is not buffee with hundreds of selections but they give you healthy and nourishing breakfast. We stay there for 4 days and everyday is different menu. We absolutely enjoy our breakfast.
Bits and pieces:
There is a friendly and well behaved corgi dog inside the residence. My kids are generally scared of dog but they could not help themselves petting and playing with the dog.
They missed the dog when we left Nanjing.
I ve seen other hotels in major areas when we walked around. But the street is very busy and wont suit us. Also hotels in cbd areas - no character surrounding the cbd. It would be perfect for business people but I think this hotel is very suited for leisure and family.
The hotel provide laundry service too. You just need to drop it off to front desk. They will wash, dry and fold them for you!!!
My daughter vomitted on our second night. The sheets would be stained from the vomit but they did not charge us for the damage.
The hotel can order you taxi if you dont have didi apps for taxi. My didi apps did not work as i did not set it up properly back home. You dont even need to pay the taxi driver either-they will sort it out and the hotel will charge you later.
The price might be a bit higher than the surrounding hotels, however its definately worth every penny.
In conclusion:
Your accommodation choice can really impact your trip. Floral hotel has been amazing and I believe this hotel was an excellent choice for family / leisure trip. We really enjoy our Nanjing trip because of Floral Hotel. Thank you Floral hotel for everything and we will definately stay at your hotel again next time we come to visit Nanjing.

I was initially asked by the hotel to leave a five-star review, but after my full stay I can’t do so in good conscience, and I have since adjusted my rating based on the second half of my booking.
This was a two-part stay (two separate bookings of five days each), and while there are genuinely strong positives, the overall experience was significantly affected by ongoing service and cleanliness issues.
There are still clear strengths to highlight. The location is excellent—quiet, safe, and surrounded by good restaurants, convenience stores, and a pleasant park nearby. The rooms are also very well designed: spacious, comfortable, and equipped with useful amenities such as a washing machine. The layout and overall setup make it a very livable space.
The staff were, for the most part, kind and helpful. One staff member in particular was consistently warm and welcoming. When issues were raised, the team did attempt to respond professionally, and I do appreciate that some solutions were offered, including a discounted rate for a future stay.
However, there were repeated concerns that affected my experience, particularly during the second half of my stay.
Cleanliness remained a consistent issue. Even after rooms were serviced, dust accumulated very quickly—so much so that items like my laptop would be visibly covered overnight. This raises concerns about the overall level of cleanliness and ventilation. In addition, housekeeping services felt inconsistent. On multiple occasions I had to specifically request basic essentials such as bottled water and fresh towels, rather than these being proactively restocked daily as would normally be expected in this type of accommodation.
Service consistency also varied. Some days staff would check in or ask whether I needed room cleaning, while on other days there was no such follow-up at all. This lack of routine made the experience feel unpredictable for a stay of this length.
There were also concerns regarding pricing and communication during an attempted extension of my stay. I had initially paid approximately 268 rand per night (already at a discounted rate). When I asked to extend for one additional night during the May Day holiday period, I was quoted around 800 rand. While I understand that rates fluctuate during peak demand, this felt inconsistent given the earlier discount offered due to the significant issues experienced in the first rooms. The handling of this request also felt quite rigid initially, although the pricing discussion changed once I indicated I would be leaving a review. By that point, however, I had already made alternative arrangements in another city.
I also noticed a change in overall tone and attentiveness from staff following my initial complaints, particularly on the day I was trying to extend my stay. In that instance, even basic housekeeping services were not offered, which contributed to a feeling of inconsistency in service.
Ultimately, I think this hotel has strong potential. The location, room design, and general setup are genuinely excellent, and there are staff members who are clearly committed and welcoming. However, the inconsistency in cleanliness standards, basic housekeeping expectations, and service delivery means I cannot recommend it as a reliably high-quality stay at this stage.
With more consistent attention to cleanliness and service fundamentals, this could be an excellent hotel experience—but in its current state, it falls short of that standard.

TinaMThis is the first time I've had an absolutely 10/10 experience with any hotel. This particular hotel also outranks every other Marriott I've ever stayed at. I genuinely could not think of a single negative point. I was only in Nanjing for 2 nights, in town for a meeting, and I'm so glad I chose to stay here.
Firstly, the room is exactly as advertised. Marriott hotels always have the fluffiest pillows, but this particular hotel had the most HEAVENLY pillows. The bed was so comfy that I ended up postponing my day plans just so I could sleep in! I didn't realise how desperately I needed that rest and recuperation, and am glad I chose to stay here and get what I needed. Also, this hotel does not skimp on the water - most hotels will only give you 2 tiny bottles a day, which if it's blazing hot outside, can be frustrating, especially if you want to boil water for tea/coffee in the morning. This hotel provides 4-5 complimentary bottles of water per day. In many ways, I felt like they anticipated what I'd need and would provide it before I even had the chance to ask. There is also an ironing board stowed in the room, which for me was a lifesaver as I had an important meeting.
As other reviewers have mentioned, the location is indeed fantastic. I was so relieved to find that after a long train journey, I only needed to hop on the subway for 1 stop - I didn't even need to exit the building, as the hotel is located inside the mall connected to the subway station.
The breakfast spread is not too bad either, with the highlight for me being the espresso machines. When I tell you this machine delivers the most divine coffee in 10 seconds, I am not kidding. It was one of my favourite things and a great way to kickstart a busy day.
At check-in, the reception staff ensured they gave me all the info I needed. I noticed this is often skipped at other hotels as staff are shy or reluctant to speak in English, which results in foreign guests missing out on relevant info or complimentary perks - but the Marriott team refused to let language be an obstacle. I was glad to learn free snacks and coffee were available in the executive lounge each evening. While I was there, the executive lounge manager - I think her name is Sheila, apologies if I've gotten this wrong - took the time to introduce herself and ask if I needed anything. She was so polite and genuinely seemed to want to improve the experience for guests. To me, these small touches are what set a service-oriented luxury hotel apart from others.
On my first night, I'd arrived pretty exhausted after having sat on a delayed train for hours, and I wanted to order takeaway as I didn't have the energy to go out. They have ******* lockers positioned right at the hotel entrance, which you can unlock with your phone and collect your deliveries. Being a foreigner who doesn't understand Chinese very well, I wasn't sure how to navigate this, but the reception staff went out of their way to help me, ensuring they stayed with me until I'd collected my parcel - it was not at all necessary for them to help me so much, but they did, and I'm very grateful for that :)
I spent the entire month traveling in China and so, looking back, am able to compare all of the hotels and experiences from this trip. This particular hotel ranks 10/10 for me not only because of the location, but also because of the kindness and professionalism of staff. Things can sometimes be confusing or overwhelming for foreigners, and this was the only hotel where staff didn't hesitate to rush in and offer to help, no matter how small the issue. Even the gentleman at the coffee bar in the lobby was so kind and polite - and might I add, everyone at this hotel speaks English, so they really do cater to an international crowd. Housekeeping staff too were very sweet, always greeting you and asking if you needed extra bottles of water.
Thank you for a relaxing, delightful stay! I hope to come again and stay longer next time.

Tones from Australia
We absolutely love our stay at Club Med Nanjing, and I can’t recommend it enough—especially for families who love the outdoors. The nature aspect of this resort is simply stunning. You can spend days just exploring the grounds, walking through the lush scenery, and discovering little hidden spots around the property. Our kids were constantly engaged, curious, and excited to see what was around the next corner.
That said, what really made our stay special was the staff. I was genuinely surprised by how well the team speaks English. As foreign guests, we never once felt lost or unable to communicate. A very special call-out to Zai Zai, Diana, and Frankie—they have been incredibly welcoming from the moment we arrived.
We later learned that they studied at university in Australia, which explains why communication felt so easy and natural. For any international travelers worried about a language barrier – don’t be. This team has you covered..
But more than just language, it’s their attentiveness to our children that blew us away. Diana, in particular, went above and beyond. She noticed how hard it can be to juggle three kids, so she would walk with us to the elevator and even push the button for us. It sounds like a small thing, but when you have your hands full with little ones, those little gestures mean the world. She also constantly checked in on our children, making sure they were happy, comfortable, and never left out.
There were a couple of kids' facilities that were closed during our visit—slightly disappointing at first. But honestly, the staff turned that around completely. They were so accommodating, quickly pointing out alternative activities and making sure our children always had something fun to do. Whether it was a quick arts band crafts setup, a guided nature walk, or just extra time at the play areas that remained open, the team made sure no moment felt wasted. The kids didn't even miss the closed facilities in the end.
Because of that, this resort is a fantastic holiday option for parents who actually want to relax. You can finally sit back, enjoy a coffee or a quiet moment, knowing your kids are not only having a blast but are also being genuinely looked after. The peace of mind that comes with that is priceless.
If you're a family that loves nature, values warm service, and wants a holiday where both parents and children come back happy and rested—book Club Med Nanjing. And say hello to Zai Zai, Diana, and Frankie. They're the best.

XiaoQi77Everything is good, have to stay one day instead of five days as have to hotel due to the TV unable to cast mobile screen. Such a waste as it is so comfortable to stay. The counter staff was so welcoming and she is very professional and friendly. I didn’t manage to get her name But she help me with my parcels and help us to bring up my food delivery. She is sweet and have a very soft voice that makes people feel welcome. Would like to stay here again hope they upgrade the TV for more amenities.

Sanorah KayThis hostel changed the idea I had of a great hostel! SEE OTHER REVIEWS FOR COMPREHENSIVE UNDERSTANDING
CHECK-IN/STAFF: Simple & easy. There is a language barrier with most of the staff, but it's nothing a little patience, on both ends, and a translator can't fix. I was helped to my room with my bags. I personally enjoyed the staff and especially one of the cleaning ladies. She was truly a joy to see every day and seemed like she genuinely liked seeing me. They helped when my food order had issues, twice. I was helped getting I was running late for my train on check-out morning.
ROOMS/FACILITIES:
Comfortable, clean and curtain for the beds. I the rooms are reasonably spacious. The average person follows the general quiet in the rooms so you can sleep peacefully any time you want. The blanket is thick, some beds have extra little hooks. (Would be nice if they added them for all beds) Pillows are decent, towel and locker provided. Beds have North American & Chinese style plugs. The entire outlet system of the building seems to be that way.
AMENITIES/GOOD TO KNOW
Laundry detergent, toothbrush/toothpaste individually wrapped units and earplugs provided at no cost. Towel/bed sheet change upon request is offered if stay is 3+ days. The main lobby toilets are used buy restaurants guests from next door. The is security at night (not personally for the hostel, for the alley) Private homes are across the way so keep the volume low to quiet after 10pm.
OVERALL/PERSONAL THOUGHTS ”
I would recommend staying here for a short or long period. Excellent valut for dollars. I felt very welcomed, comfortable & overall relaxed. My only real complaint is the lack of fridge, microwave and a sink area. As a budget traveler it can get costly having to order or go out for every meal is super inconvenient. To be fair, you can ask for your items to be placed in the staff fridge at the bar. The downside is having to wait and ask for staff to get it for me. This was super frustrating when I wanted my food and had to wait about 20 minutes for someone to finally be able to do it. Not to mention the general inconvenience of not being able to go to a fridge at will.
Even though there's a laundry area upstairs, many people will do laundry in the sinks leaving the bathroom floors constantly wet and countertops soaked. Not management's fault but could possibly be addressed in the rules. There are days where a gentleman will come sit outside the hostel or the general alley area with Barky McBarkerson his incredibly annoying dog that's constantly barking at everyone and everything. When they're directly on the property hanging out infront don't even think of enjoying the fresh air peacefully . I think there's a way for management to address bothersome behavior to their guest. IMO if management could somehow provide a common fridge and a microwave, they would be close to top tier hostel all things considered. Review based on multiple stays.
Enjoy

Overall, an okay hotel to stay in for a night or two as the location is relatively convenient yet quiet, the beds are comfortable (some hotels in China have rock-hard beds and pillows, not everyone likes that!), and the price isn’t super high. However, there are better hotels for a similar price if you look for them. My main issues were the bathroom, and a discrepancy between the room I booked based on the Trip pictures, and the room I was actually given.
Pros:
Service: The hotel staff (both front desk and housekeeping) were really friendly and helpful, and were proactive asking other guests to be quiet during quiet hours at night. The room itself was quite clean.
Facilities: The bed was really comfortable, and the room seemed well-kept and renovated within the last few years.
Location: Close-ish to a metro station (although the sidewalks in Nanjing are impossible with large suitcases, it is walkable if you don’t have too much luggage), and the area was not too noisy at night.
Cons:
Service: I booked the ‘Deluxe King Outer Window’ room, but the room in the pictures when you book is not what you will get. I was instead put in the smaller, cheaper ‘Comfortable Big Bedroom’, despite paying more for the other room type. I was even given a ‘free upgrade’ to the ‘Deluxe King Outer Window’ room on my first night, and then asked to move to the smaller room type after one night! The difference is tiny if you only stay a night or two, but I needed to be in Nanjing for 12 nights so it added up to a big cost difference. The hotel should use accurate pictures when booking, because I felt a bit deceived, and the size difference between the rooms was noticeable. Another review says the same happened to them, so either the hotel has a habit of upcharging, or they have misleading pictures and need to make them accurate so everyone is on the same page. I didn’t say anything at the time as it was hard for me to move rooms, but I should have asked them to clarify.
Facilities: The linens (towels, sheets etc.) had some small rips in them, and the towels were quite small. The bathroom was not very clean (e.g. the metal parts of the shower, the toilet). I knew this already, but it is a wetroom, and I always forget how bad they are to use. The entire bathroom gets soaked easily even if you’re trying to be careful, which put me off showering. The drains smelt incredibly bad, and the only way to stop the smell was to run the shower for a few minutes, and after a few minutes of no water they would stink again. It is a common problem in China, but this one was worse than some. Again, it put me off using the bathroom at all, and could probably be fixed easily by installing drain covers or traps.
