miserable hotel with exhausted furnishings and hospitality. no hot water past 10 p.m., grotesque in every category. dual balconies in the “Presidential Suite” overlooking city bus stop, constant noise and discomfort. avoid at all costs

This is one of those hotels where I suspect the people writing positive reviews had a much nicer room assignment than we received. I was travelling with my kids and emailed ahead to see if an extra bed could be put in the room. We were told it could, and then when we arrived, we were told it could not. (And indeed, the room was so tiny it could not have fit a bed.) The room we had was an interior one and looked out over a shaft with some dirty, broken items in it. The other window looked over a hall. The room was not very clean: there were ants on one wall next to the bed, and my daughter found a candy wrapper in her bed, which implied the sheets had not been changed. We were woken at 6:00am by an incredibly loud grinding noise that sounded like crushing metal or doors being repeatedly smashed. I think other guests have also remarked on this, so likely not a one-off. We only stayed one night. For the price, it was a real rip-off. The location is good, for sure—but there are lots of AirBnBs in the same vicinity. The room did have AC and wifi. But otherwise, AVOID.

Stayed here for 3 nights with my friend at the start of the month. Be aware that if you don’t speak Spanish you may struggle. We got by with my friend’s Spanish. We were allowed to keep our cases behind the front desk as we were a couple of hours early. We got given the key to our room. According to Booking dot com we’d been upgraded. Well I dread to think what it would’ve been like if we hadn’t. We had a room on the ground floor near the pool (an added bonus- we didn’t use but it looks lovely). The room has no windows so as others said, with the decor it did feel like a jail cell. The TV Ariel was kind of hanging precariously off the wall and the very small double was hard as anything. The air con, thankfully, worked well. The bathroom had no/poor extractor so it was constantly wet and definitely in need of an upgrade. I worried the door handle would fall off throughout our stay. The shower was very sensitive- it was either boiling hot or freezing cold unless it was JUST in the right spot. If you need quiet for sleep: try somewhere else. Staff were on the go from around 6.30am and were very noisy. The cleaners did a good job but we were so grumpy from being awoken early on holiday. We didn’t sample the food so I can’t comment. The location is what sells this place. It has a fabulous location- and in that way I’d recommend it. For anything else? Try elsewhere.

Hotel looks lovely but the room is awful. Feels like we are in a tiny jail. Very small room. No light or windows. There is no ventilation in the room so if you swim, afterwards the room is really humid. I had no hot water. Definitely would not come back. Location is great, cleaners do a great job. They are cleaning all day.

I booked this place for my parents who were visiting. When they arrived the manager who was working (15 May 2023) claimed they had booked two rooms (which wasn't true) and demanded that they pay twice even though the hotel wasn't full. The manager then took them to the worse room in the hotel despite them having being told by email before arrival that they would have a quiet room. This was disgusting and vindictive behaviour and not in keeping with Mexican hospitality which is, in my experience, the best in the world. In the interest of balance my parents said that the other staff were nice and the hotel itself was ok with a good central location. I hope the owners take action against the manager who was working 15 May as his behaviour was unacceptable and ruined my parents' first day in Oaxaca.

My family of five had a wonderful stay at Hotel CasAntica in April 2022. We stayed in two junior suites on the second floor. The rooms were quiet and comfortable. The historic hotel has beautiful interior courtyards and balconies, with various plants and artwork throughout. The kids loved playing in the pool, tucked into a courtyard but open to the sky, after being out in the bustling city of Oaxaca. We also enjoyed eating breakfast in another interior courtyard, and the feel of the historic building, which also had pleasant seating areas along the balconies. The location is fantastic, very close to the Zocolo and in walking distance of everywhere we wanted to go in Oaxaca City. The staff was helpful and courteous. We enjoyed every moment of our stay here.

Hotel has a lot of potential, but there are things they need to updated or upgraded. 1. Better bath towels and bed linens. 2. Better Restaurant hours. 3. Restaurant service need to be quicker. 4. Staff should try to speak English. So with my little Spanish we are able to communicate. The positive is hotel is centrally located and very clean.

This Hotel is in a great location, and I liked the convenience of it. The staff was friendly, but did not go out of their way to make us feel comfortable. Only the guy at night spoke English so it was difficult to communicate. We were in the room right below the laundry room so there were loud noises during the day. One morning it sounded like they were moving furniture at 6am!
