We recently stayed in the Pleystowe penthouse, part of Spinnaker Quays, booking it for our family of eight. The unit, which sleeps nine, included an adjoining private rooftop space that we were excited to use for a relaxing holiday. Unfortunately, the experience was far from enjoyable. We paid $6,300 for a nine-night stay, expecting a high standard of service and a welcoming environment. After an initial noise complaint (which we addressed immediately), we set strict guidelines: keeping noise to a minimum, music at a mid-level volume (5), and everything turned off by 9 PM. The music was only ever played on our private rooftop, yet despite adhering to these rules, we continued to receive complaints for normal activities like moderate music at 8 PM on Australia Day. To our surprise, we were even told to be quiet when using the stairwell, which made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. To make matters worse, our unit was not serviced at all during our stay—a basic expectation for accommodation at this price point. When we raised this issue, our concerns were dismissed without apology. More concerning was the behavior of the manager, Paul, who was extremely rude and aggressive when speaking to us. His unprofessional attitude only added to the discomfort of our stay and made it clear that guest relations are not a priority here. At no point were we provided with terms and conditions outlining noise policies or other rules—not in our email correspondence, at check-in, or on the website. This lack of transparency made the stay even more frustrating. We felt unfairly targeted throughout our stay, and the unprofessional handling of our concerns left us more stressed than when we arrived. We spoke with other families who shared similar frustrations, so our experience was not isolated. Unless you plan to be completely silent for the duration of your stay, we would not recommend Pleystowe or Spinnaker Quays. Given the $700 per night price, we expected much better service, professional management, and clearer communication. We won’t be returning.
