Mahoora - Udawalawe by Eco Team

We stayed for one night at the Camp and regret for not booking two nights! We were a bit worried about sleeping in a tent but when we arrived at the camp and were met by Solomon and the lovely staff, all our worries disappeared. We had a super comfy bed and a lovely tent which was slightly old but very clean. We had all we could have wished for a romantic night with lovely three course barbecue dinner and a camp fire! The entire camp felt very secure and we felt that all staff were efficient, professional and friendly. The best part was the romantic atmosphere gazing at the stars, listening in the night, being surrounded by stunning nature, birds and wildlife. The next morning, after a tasty freshly cooked breakfast, Solomon gave us a walking tour of nature surrounding the camp and the gorgeous lake nearby.He is an experienced and personable guide who is very passionate about nature and can spot birds and small animals from 500 meters. His story telling and knowledge about Sri Lanka flora and fauna is very extensive. He showed us native birds and a chameleon that we could not see without the binoculars. We encountered the famous red back woodpecker, the giant squirrels, monitor lizards, wild rabbit and numerous beautiful water birds at the lake. We came across the traces of the elephants who pass around the camp during the night to get to the water in the lake. We learnt so much from Solomon and are so grateful for his informative tour and friendly service. We strongly recommend the Mahoora Tented Safari Camp to those visiting the Udawalawe National Park and would like to express our special thanks to Solomon and the team.

We had a memorable trip to udawalawe with our guide Solomon and driver Keri who showed us over 50 species of birds plus elephants crocodiles mongoose jackals turtles often in ares of the park where we saw no one else. Solomon’s clear identification and keris sharp eyes made the trip for us. Thank you both!!!!

The tented village is excellent. A real escape from life . Everyone is very friendly . We had a wonderful safari with Solomons . He was an excellent guide : very knowledgeable on the birds and animals . He took us on an interesting walk around the camp too . The food was delicious. They really looked after us . I would recommend it .

Its a very charming and peaceful place. If you are lookinf for some place to scape the city, thats the right place. If you have been to a big safari (i have), its completly different, its much smaller, but the piece made it worth. And Heshan, our guide, made ir very special. He knows everything about nature and birds…so we had lots of explanations about. He is very nice person and very caring person. Tks a lot, Heshan.

It was a beautiful experience even if it was just for one night. The staff was kind and competent. They were also very knowledgeable. The rooms were extremely spacious and comfortable and the food was great. We got lucky and had Solomon guide us for our morning safari and was extremely knowledgeable in the wildlife around. We also got really lucky and managed to see a full elephant crossing with the child.

If you are looking for an amazing wildlife experience, look no further. Mahoora Udawalawe camp went above and beyond to cater to all our needs and no request was too big or too small for them. We were met by Santosh who checked us in efficiently and was always contactable throughout our stay. All members of staff were so friendly and delightful. Always greeted us with a lovely smile. Our tend was amazing. We had everything we needed and more. We enjoyed the accommodation very much. These tents are far superior to a majority of similar camps we have stayed in other countries during our game drives. Dinner was served around a campfire which was a great experience. Meals were plated and brought to us straight from the kitchen. Food was of a high standard and very well presented. Most of all, a big thank you to the young man who served us and compliments to the chef for a great dining experience under the stars. We were accompanied on our game drives by Mr Solomons the naturalist. It was an exciting and a great experience. We were delighted to see so many elephants, a wide variety of birds and reptiles not forgetting a few large crocodiles. Mr Solomons knew exactly where to find them and parted with a great deal of information presenting it in fascinating detail. There was so much to see and thanks to Mr Solomons we were able to understand and appreciate the jungle and its ecosystems. He has a vast wealth of knowledge and experience which was very apparent. A true gentleman and an absolute genius. Great value for money and an experience delivered to a very high standard.
