It was a beautiful experience even if it was just for one night. The staff was kind and competent. They were also very knowledgeable. The rooms were extremely spacious and comfortable and the food was great. We got lucky and had Solomon guide us for our morning safari and was extremely knowledgeable in the wildlife around. We also got really lucky and managed to see a full elephant crossing with the child.

The location was a bit out of the way but it was a fantastic experience. We arrived and were greeted enthusiastically and shown around the site. One of the guides Heshan took us on a walk around and pointed out lots of the local nature and was very knowledgeable about all of the birds and plants that were in the area. He explained about the park and how the elephants were part of the ecosystem and ensured that we knew all about nature. The following day Heshan was our guide in the national park and once again demonstrated his outstanding knowledge of nature and the environment. Very impressed with the overall experience and would recommend this as part of any trip. The food at the camp and the picnic provided was excellent and very tasty.

Definitely worth a stay here, ensure you do a full day safari as we saw so much wildlife. The tent was very comfortable and the food was delicious. We had a great cooking class as well. The staff went above and beyond! Special mention to Salomon who was unparalleled in his wildlife knowledge!!

We booked Mahoora for two nights and enjoyed every moment of it! The staff was fantastic and really made our stay so relaxed. The tent was lovely decorated with good beds, a safe, fresh drinking water and our own bathroom. We really enjoyed the dinners by the campfire, the food was amazing. We did two safari’s with the very experienced guide Solomons, one morning and one afternoon and we have seen lots of animals. We would definitely recommend this place!

We loved the camp here. The tent was as described. Surprise warm lemon water for bath post safari was nice. Meals were excellent and the dining under the stars by candle light was exceptional. Our highlight was Heshan the naturalist who enhanced our safari so much. He has an amazing knowledge base and is highly educated regarding wildlife in Sri Lanka. We had the experience of a lifetime in the national park. Seeing a herd of elephants, water buffalo, deer, peacock and many other species of birds. The landscape was truly spectacular. We cannot thank Mr Solomon’s, Heshan and our driver Sampath enough. They really looked after us.

Trip Advisor We visited in July with 2 adults and 3 children all under 10. We decided we wanted to break up our trip considering the national park was approx 2 hours from where we were staying in Weligama. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by the team. We had booked The Mahoora tents which have more space and better amenities and comfort. For our party of 5, the living area has been converted to allow 3 kids beds, with a master bedroom connected to the compact but fully functioning bathroom with shower, toilet and sink. We had a freshly prepared lunch before having a sunset walk, followed by a campfire bbq. We had an early rise (pre 5am) for our morning safari, but well worth it. Cooler temperatures means more animals to see and a more bearable heat level. What made our trip really special was our Naturist, Solomon. Full of stories, insights and a seemingly photographic memory of local wildlife, he kept us fully entertained throughout the trip. Thoroughly recommended for a true wilderness experience, and a must do if you are in the South of Sri Lanka.

For our family holiday at Mahoora Tented Safari Camp Udawalawe, I had my teenage son (19 years) and my mum (70’s ) and it exceeded our expectations. Spacious and wonderful tent, the beds were so comfy, with the amazing food and presentation- the chef is a magician! Back to nature with a slice of luxury in the wild. The staff are so friendly and attentive, ever ready to personalise our itinerary. Most importantly, we had the loveliest and amazingly knowledgeable guide/naturalist Heshan and our very experienced driver for our safaris. We saw so many birds and elephants. He truly has a real passion for what he does! We had a fabulous time.

From the moment we arrived, the team here made us feel at home. Such a great experience for our family to be immersed in nature. The camp setup was perfect with all the luxuries you would need and Solomon was well versed at educating and entertaining going above and beyond to teach the kids about all the wildlife. We will defiantly be back! (One day)

Mahoora Safari was an amazing experience, the team on site were so helpful and looked after us. They were really flexible with our ever changing arrival and departure times as we travelled across Sri Lanka and were planning each day as it came. There was plenty of food provided throughout the day and the catering team member we had was so attentive and friendly. Our tent had quite a few visitors (bugs and salamanders) but the team came to safely capture them and release outside the tent so we could sleep in peace. There were a number of gaps in the netting, but again once we had pointed these out, the team had them all stitched up before we stayed for our second night. The safari itself, we were lucky and saw around 20 elephants in a day, including lots of baby elephants which was really special. The elephants are friendly and not scared by the jeeps but a lot of jeeps will appear quickly if they are sighted. Solomons was our guide and he was extremely knowledgable of all the animals we saw in the park as well as his knowledge of Sri Lanka and its history. He is very passionate about his job and has excellent sight for spotting birds!
