Their standard rooms are way too small, okay for maybe one night but not suitable for longer stays. No wardrobe, just an open space for hangers right next to the bed. The suites are much better; you can try negotiating a discount for a stay over multiple days. Onomo started as the chic place to be, a breath of fresh air among the somewhat stale older middle-class hotels in Kampala. Fast forward to 2024 one can observe peeling veneer, doors that can only be closed with increased force, cockroaches in the spa area - if they are already there, one does not want to know what it looks like in the kitchen -, wobbly covers of the air conditioning controls, and so forth. Nothing overwhelmingly terrible, but many small flawes surfacing now. They can't decide whether they want to be a really good hotel or a loud party place for Kampala's wannabe-rich. On weekends or sometimes during the week, rooms facing the pool get the full force of the noise. When the business started a few years ago, their breakfast was really good. However, one can't shake the feeling that the hotel now focuses mainly on local guests rather than an international clientele. The quality, variety, and presentation have significantly declined—heavy local dishes, no truly good bread, stale pastries, and cheap cheese. Perhaps one wouldn't notice if they hadn't experienced the much better quality in the first 1 to 2 years. And is it necessary to pull the cushions from under guests during breakfast? Can't the restaurant be fully prepared before guests arrive? It's also impossible to simply enjoy the atmosphere during breakfast; the music is already too loud at 7 a.m. This continues throughout the day; the pool area would be nice for sitting, but not if you want to concentrate or just sit with friends without having to shout. The waiters are friendly but often inattentive. You can easily spend 20 minutes trying to place an order, without success. The kitchen has good dishes, but at times, you can clearly tell where the microwave was used. Dear Onomo management, there is still time to set things right. Simply check all rooms regularly for repair needs, call the exterminator, get the kitchen/ restaurant in order, and decide on a concept - a classy hotel or a blaring party venue.
