Stansted Airport Lodge

The standard of this hotdl was very poor. I felt like i was zlready in a ***** world country. It was messy, noisy from the road , noisy from other people staying and no amenities. The only good thing in its favour was its location in relation to the airport and the friendly face at the reception.

it was damp, dirty, and extremely dated, and I checked out shortly after arriving and went to the Novotel nearby. It is simply the worst place I have ever set foot in. My towel was still damp - as if it hadn't been changed - my bed looked like it hadn't been changed and didn't smell good at all. No matter how cheap or good the deal seems - DO NOT BOOK HERE. FYI - The picture of the bed is as I found it on arrival....

Stayed here for one night only. It is about 5km from Airport Departures. I walked from the airport which took an hour (not recommended) ,but next day caught the bus back which was only 10 minutes (recommended). There were many things wrong with the room. Some of the lights didn't work and a light over the shower was flashing which was disconcerting. Hair-dryer had a EU plug so wouldn't work (Helped by person on front desk who loaned me one). I had a ground floor room but was kept awake by loud talking in the foyer area in the early hours of the morning.

As soon as I got to the hotel I was told they don’t have a key for my room, so the receptionist would have to let me in every time I went out to the room. I asked if they had a different room so I had access to a key, he said no. He showed me to my room, the receptionist had to climb through the window to open it from the inside I was absolutely baffled. He then told me to keep the windows open at all times so he could get in if I get locked out etc. And I said there’s no way I would be keeping the windows unlocked over night, especially because I am a young woman on my own. He replied “no dirty men will come into here don’t worry” most bizarre response ever. I did not feel safe what so ever doing that as anyone could have just come into my room as this was on ground floor and I watched him climb through the window easily. So as soon as he left my room, i noticed the windows didn’t even lock properly in the first place, anyone could have walked into the building as the front door to the building was not locked or had any security to it what so ever. The room stunk of urine, sink had a big leak, the room was rank. I booked another hotel and taxi then left straight away. On my way out I did ask for a refund which he declined but then said he can give me another room instead, he could have just done this in the first place? Which was weird but I wouldn’t have stayed regardless. Don’t book here, absolute joke and shouldn’t even be open.

The place looked clean, initially. However, I woke up covered in bites on my hands and arms. Reading other reviews, I see others have had the same issue. In addition, there was no fixing for the shower head, the toilet paper was so thin, there was one pillow per person which were thin, only one towel per person, dirty or missing floor tile grout, and hardly any tv channels.

I usually check hotel reviews very carefully but as this was booked as part of a hotel parking package I didn't bother- after all, we were only in the hotel for 8 hours... I have since read many reviews and I have to say, I don't agree with all of it. The receptionist was perfectly nice and there was some noise from other guests during the night but nothing too bad. The room was clean and the bathroom was spotless. My issue was bedbugs! I didn't realise initially how badly I'd been bitten as the bites only started to materialise after a few days....but when they did, HOLY MOLY! (My husband didn't appear to be bitten at all, or if he was, he showed no signs) I, however, was absolutely made a meal of. I must've had between 60 & 80 bites and after a week they were so bad I needed medical attention and a course of steroids to stop the itching. I have never been bitten by bedbugs before and I never want to again. I will definitely check all hotel reviews from now on, even if it is a quick overnight stay. Think very carefully before you choose this hotel!

DO NOT BOOK THIS LODGE!!!! Terrible service ....all I will say is FILTHY....no plug in sink...... mould everywhere in bathroom.....bed was well and truly used....floor was sticky.....the list goes on...steer clear. Man knocked on our door at 7.30 am to make sure we had arrived during the night...I'd only got off to sleep...didn't say one word in the morning...I asked for a taxi number ...he just pointed to a bit of paper and walked off!
