This is a wonderful hotel, and all the staff are an absolute credit to it. Husband and I took my Mum here for a special trip. From time spent when I booked making sure my Mum got the right kind of room for her needs, to nothing being too much trouble once we were there, this place is luxurious without being stuffy. Friendly but with an old-school attention to detail and top notch service. My Mum's room was in the main house near the lift and therefore full of character, while we had a spacious and immaculate room in the newer Woodland Wing. Dinner on both nights was exceptional and breakfast was good too. Lovely to meet Lord Gisborough himself, very chipper at 97! And my husband enjoyed some post dinner whiskies from ”The Safe”. A perfect base from which to explore the coast around Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay. Also, despite there being weddings on both nights we were there there was no noise or disruption to the service for ordinary guests which is not always the case!! It's a long way from us but if we were EVER so much as thinking of returning to the area, this would be our first choice

Im September war der Aufenthalt für 2 Nächte in einem Doppelzimmer und wurde mit einem Buy-a-Gift-Gutschein für £130 gekauft. Kein Parkplatz verfügbar, aber es gibt einen öffentlichen (Zahlungs- und Anzeige-) Parkplatz 150 m entfernt Wenn wir unserem Zimmer gezeigt wurden, wurde gesagt, es gab kein Toilette im Zimmer, aber es gab eine geteilte am Ende des Korridors. Wir waren nicht vorher darüber informiert worden. Es gab keine Speise für ein Abendessen, obwohl es nur um 5 Uhr war. Es gab kein Frühstück in jedem der beiden Morgens. In dem Zimmer wurden keine Informationen über Wi-Fi oder gar nichts anderes gegeben. Es gab keine Bettwäsche und keine Schranke - nur zwei Hänge auf einem Kleidung Rack. Das Wasser in der Dusche war gefährlich heiß, weil die Tappen so schwer zu drehen und zu kontrollieren waren. Es gab Seife Dribbele unter der Außenwand der Dusche und die Wand Zahnbürste Halter war mit alten Zahnpasten gefärbt und in Staub bedeckt. Das alte Holzsash-Fenster wurde mit einem Holzblock geöffnet, nicht sicher warum, weil es ganz fest gehalten war, denn es konnte weder nach oben noch nach unten bewegt werden. Das völlig gefrorene Fenster verdeckte unsere feine Aussicht auf das Feuer entkommen und den Rückengarten. Die Tage waren ganz gewiß warm, aber das Zimmer war in der Nacht unerträglich warm, weil keine Luft ins Fenster kam. Es gab eine riesige Kellerkühler draußen, die einen Lärm ausstrahlte, der wie ein riesiger Haartrockner klang, der nie ausgeschaltet wurde. Wenn wir cool genug gewesen wären, um zu schlafen, hätten wir uns trotzdem aufwachen lassen. Der geholsterte Stuhl im Zimmer war eine sehr belastete und schmutzige Sache, die sicherlich bessere Jahrzehnte gesehen hatte. Wir saßen nicht auf sie, um ihren Komfort zu testen. Das Zimmer war nicht vor dem zweiten (und dankbar letzter) Abend serviert und wir mussten nach einem Mitarbeiter suchen, um uns einen Teebeutel zu geben. Auf der positiven Seite war die Flachs sauber und das Bett komfortable ..... Denken Sie nicht, dass wir wieder kommen werden!
