Never again. This place charged 5 star hotel prices for what was ostensibly a hostel where literally nothing worked. I checked out early and was refunded 3 nights. Terrible experience I would like to forget which is a shame because Galle was lovely.

What’s bad? A lot. Small rooms, broken WiFi, no amenities (bring your own soap and shower gel), tiny windows, a musty odour and a generally gloomy atmosphere.
What’s good? I was able to get a refund for the unused part of my stay - both my friend and I had booked rooms for four nights but left after one night only.
This is a one star hotel charging four star hotel prices. The guest in the room next to mine told me she felt depressed on her second night here, “Like a prison cell.” I agree with her.

This was a beautiful hotel. The location is great because it is inside the Galle Fort. The staff was very friendly and the room was nice. There was air conditioning and a fan. The shower drain was a bit slow which caused the water to overflow a little. We only stayed here one night, but overall a lovely stay. Highly recommend.

Excellent location. Good for the price paid. No frills. Room is small and cozy. There is cupboard space and the shower had hot water. The lady that checked us in was friedly and nice. We had a few issues: AC didnt work for most of the night, no kettle in room to get warm water/tea. The breakfast menu was bread, butter, jam, omelette and tea/coffee. In comparison to other budget stays in Galle, the breakfast can be improved by adding a fruit or a yogurt. There is a cafe downstairs that serve lovely pancakes.

Clean, comfortable, well positioned, helpful and friendly staff. Highly recommended. A well stocked cafe also serves delicious desserts, cakes and biscuits as well as food and drinks 56 is within the Fort and just a short walk to the ocean and lighthouse
