We visited Clonyard for lunch to celebrate an 80th birthday. I had prebooked but we were the only people eating there at the time - this was a shame because it’s a lovely venue tucked away between Kippford and Rockcliffe. We started by sharing whitebait and tempura prawns as a starter between three of us, followed by the scallops and the hotel’s own take on thai green curry. Everything was freshly cooked and absolutely delicious. Dessert choice was raspberry and vanilla brûlée and Caribbean bananas with vanilla icecream. Prices were not excessive and we were full by the time we finished. Thoroughly recommend eating here - we will definitely be back.

We held our Ruby Wedding here on Saturday afternoon and it was first class. It wasn't a huge affair, we had about 40 guests, and the room was just perfect for the size of party. The room was set up beautifully, we had a buffet which all our guests enjoyed, and the staff were very supportive and helpful. Thanks to all.

Food! Starter was lovely,with lovely fresh ingredients. Then it went all wrong…frozen cod (maybe)tasted like whiting,with dripping grease batter. Don’t think I’ve tasted worse! Oven chips (don’t mind…healthy option) better if they had been cooked and not hard in the middle. Peas…rarely cooked properly anyway.This seemed to extra nasty ones from the previous night. Wifes meal similarly the chips etc the same but had an an ale and meat free beef pie. Looked good… no flavour..likely been frozen. Will never return and will warn others!

Fantastic experience from the moment I arrived. Set in beautiful gardens in the beautiful countryside. My room was huge, the bed was super big and so so comfortable I actually slept for a solid 9 hours. Breakfast, great choices, I opted for the Scottish cooked and it was delicious, perfection and certainly set me up for my day ahead. Minus points, Zero, I just loved the place and I shall certainly look to return. Highly recommend The Clonyard House Hotel if you want to discover the beauty of Dumfries and Galloway.

Been going to Dumfries and Galloway for over 10 years now and have never known about this little gem, had it recommended by another local pub which since Covid had to stop serving food and am glad he did recommend it, best food I have had locally, best price found and with the owners wife being Thai lots of the food has a Thai twist really bringing some nice flavours out, oh and the locals are really friendly. Only a small double bed. Expected king and single. Room very tired, curtains wouldn't meet without exposing gap at side. Eventually secured with safety pin!. BUT brilliant grounds with direct entry to them and incredibly good food both for dinner and the breakfast was probably the best choice we've ever been given. And dogs were free!

Food was fantastic, atmosphere was calm and pleasant. Had an absolute blast with the locals and staff. Very friendly and up for a laugh, this was the highlight of my holiday. Good people, good food, what more can you ask for.

Lovely family hotel in a beautiful setting, idea for walking or just visiting the local quaint towns. Memorable breakfasts where tea is served in a pot and you don’t have to make your own toast. A great selection for dinner, from traditional to Asian cuisine. Highly recommended, great value

I enjoyed my stay at The Clonyard Hotel. The room we had was huge with antique furniture and an old fashioned fireplace. Each room is individualized. The dining room hadn't altered in 40 years. I can say this with certainty as I remember eating at The Clonyard with my parents! But in a nostalgic way, I found this rather charming! The room was cleaned daily and fresh towel left if required. Tea, coffee and packets of biscuits were also in our room.
If you are looking for a 'Travel Lodge' type hotel where everything is uniform then the Clonyard isnt for you! But if you are looking for somewhere with character, charm, shabby chic and sash windows :this would be a perfect choice.
