Myself and my husband stayed in the next door property during the week and it was here that we could see a new crane obstructing the sea views of both hotels. This is not the fault of the hotels, but nonetheless not what you are paying for either. We contacted Compass House, explained our situation and that we were due to stay with them when back in Cape Town on Thursday, and enquired about the possibility of a refund as the noise and obstructed view caused by the building was not something we wanted on our honeymoon. Considering the great reviews, We had read, we were surprised by the total inflexibility and expected better. We were told a refund was highly unlikely but to e mail. We did this but the hotel refused to offer a refund saying the owner would not agree, which seems very unfair under the circumstances. It is worth noting the neighbouring hotel emailed every guest to let them know of the crane was affecting the views, yet Compass House have had a very different approach to their guests. (We only knew of the issue as we had by chance stayed next door during the earlier part of our trip) We are not fussy people and in fact this will be the first review we have ever written despite countless trips to numerous places of various types, however such is how strongly we feel about it. My advice would be to avoid this property, certainly while the crane is there, which I overheard will be at least another year. Possibly avoid anyway based on the inflexibility of the owner; it might not bode well for peoples future stays if issues were to arise, and there are so many places we have experienced in South Africa with fantastic levels of hospitality so there’s genuinely no need to stay here. A real shame.
