Calitzdorp Country House

What a beautiful place and we were surprised. When we took the road out of Calitzdorp towards the guest house I began to doubt whether we had made the right decision. But the moment we passed through the gates and entered, I knew it had been the best choice of our entire trip. The decor is incredibly beautiful old with modern. Rooms are done with detail. The owners Andrew and Nell are incredibly hospitable. Although we only slept there that night, I'm definitely going to come back and bring the whole family to do Nell's masterchef class with them all.

We have just had a wonderful stay at Calitzdorp Country house Hotel. Andrew and Nell are very welcoming. We had a delightful three course diner which included delicious Springbok, not the easiest thing to cook. The place was very relaxed and comfortable. We had a big room ensuite with a wonderful view and a terrace to sit out on. the hotel has outdoor seating and a very pleasant colourful and interesting garden. at diner we had entertaining conversations with other guests. There was no rush to leave after a delicious breakfast. t was lovely chatting to Andrew and Nell too. i am sure we will return.

A lovely one-night stay at this comfortable and welcoming guesthouse on the outskirts of Calitzdorp. The owners, Nel and Andrew are hospitable and accommodating and one unwinds upon arrival. The pool is lovely and breakfast was delicious - the best we had on our roadtrip

We had our friends from Europe coming for the Christmas and the New Year and we decided to drive down to Cape Town from Johannesburg. One of our stops on our way was Calitzdorp. As we didn't know this place very well we booked Calitzdorp Country House by looking where to stay for one night. We were so lucky that we chose this place as it was absolutely perfect. Firstly, our hosts are fantastic and extremely friendly people. The food at the lodge was so good, that we all agreed the steak done by Nel was ultimately the best one we all ever had. The vine chosen by Dave was so good that we visited the nearby winery and bought a case next day. Andrew as the owner and host was always there to assist, help and tell us the stories about Clitzdorp and the area. For travelers driving to and from Cape Town through the Klein Karoo, Calitzdorp Country House is definitely strongly recommended, as you will, like us, have absolutely unforgettable time.

On our recent 5 week trip abroad, this was our favorite overnight stay, and will remain a treasured highlight of all our South African travels. Located a few kms outside Calitzdorp, this is a beautiful (and safe) setting with 4 star hotel level room and bathroom, as well a lavishly furnished, huge shared dining, sitting and deck space with stunning views of fertile farmlands and Karoo mountains in the distance. Hosts Nell and David combine decades of experience in the hotel and catering industry, brought from Johannesburg to a Klein Karoo setting. They made us feel so welcome, and provided 5 star dining, wining and breakfast, comparable to our best visits at top Western Cape vineyards. (Do not waste your time finding dining in Calitzdorp, this is the expert restauranteur and wine tasting where you want to spend the night.) If you want to escape from a busy city life to peace and quiet in a luxurious Klein Karoo setting, I cannot recommend this too highly.

We love this guesthouse which is why we came back. It is just like staying with friends. Nel’s cooking alone is worth coming for. Dinner and breakfast are equally good. The view from the terrace is great, especially at sunset.
