This is a really special resort- the staff are super helpful, kind and work very hard. We stayed in a lakeside lodge- such a great place- northern light watching from our own balconies drinking tea- spectacular views- pulling cod out of the fjord- you can swim ( we didn’t ) minus 18 - diamond dust and fresh snow just adding to the magical side- downside is there is only one restaurant- it is isolated - the food was delicious but pricey- wished we had bought some from Tromsø and taken to cook our own in the lodge - my daughter had specific eating requirements - this was not well catered for unfortunately- even though we had given six months notice- just becareful as menu specified GF- but it had barley in and barley is full of gluten . Other than that is was wonderful and we would definitely go back xxx

Nestled in a valley surrounded by lush green mountains, Vollan ‘Guesthouse’ is a gem of a hotel. There is very little to Nordkjosbotn apart from the new Mack brewery and the junction of two of the North’s main highways (E6 and E8), but the nice location and quality of this hotel makes it an ideal place for long-distance travellers to stay en route. The rooms are modern, spacious, nicely appointed and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was superb, with non-standard items such as chorizo, blue cheese, different kinds of smoked fish and a lovely fruit selection. Reflecting its location, the cafe is somehow a more salubrious, Scandinavian version of the British transport cafe, serving everything from coffee, cakes and sandwiches to full meals with basic but wholesome ingredients. Portions are generous and the food is excellent - Scandinavian home cooking at reasonable prices, not overpriced and no bogus gastronomy. Although Nordkjosbotn is a stopping off point rather than a destination, this was definitely the nicest hotel I stayed in, during a 3-week trip in Arctic Norway. So I would advise anyone on such a trip to plan to stop off there.
