My friend and I, two Americans in our mid/late 20s, did a 6-day Ayurvedic retreat here and overall had a fantastic experience. While the rooms themselves are basic and nothing memorable, they were clean, and the retreat grounds (the pool, lobby, restaurant, yoga room, etc) were beautiful and well-designed. The two elements of this retreat that were exceptional in my view were the ayurvedic consultations and the food. We had daily consultations with Dr. Arun, the ayurvedic doctor, and found him to be kind and knowledgeable. It was clear to me by the end of the retreat that he deeply cares about his patients' wellbeing, as he even took the time to speak with a family member on the phone about their health and provide his advice. The food was also top notch. I grew up eating homemade Indian vegetarian food and find that I have a higher bar than most of my friends for Indian restaurants; despite the doctor's ayurvedic constraints (i.e. minimal spice levels, oil, etc), we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Chef Arvind was personable and went out of his way to connect with us and check that we were happy. The daily ayurvedic treatments were fine - the massage therapists were kind and hospitable, though I didn't find the treatments to be exceptional. In terms of areas for improvement, given that the grounds are a healing oasis (there is no caffeine, alcohol, junk food, etc), I was surprised to see some folks on the grounds smoking cigarettes on a few occasions - I think the retreat should be advertised as such or be a nonsmoking premise. Additionally, one massage therapist was consistently coughing but did not wear a mask at any point including during the treatments, or ideally she should've been subbed out for someone who wasn't sick given the purpose of the retreat is healing. All in all, we had a lovely experience, and would recommend this retreat to anyone looking to detox, recharge, and improve their health. The owners made us feel welcome albeit a bit uncomfortable at times - a warm introduction certainly goes the extra mile but it got to be a bit much by the last day. They always say the best hospitality is when guests feel well taken care of and comfortable while also feeling the space to explore and not watched. We'd encourage the owners to trust that the quality of the retreat, particularly the beautifully designed grounds, and excellent doctor and chef, speak for itself.
