La Maison de la Plage

What an amazing place...Karine and Jerome were the most perfect warm hosts, and the rest of the staff were friendly too. Jimmy is also a great guide and driver, who works there. The guest house is wonderful and felt like home, with an eclectic mix of furnishings. We had an upstairs room which was spacious, with a huge comfortable bed. The balcony was lovely and the perfect spot to sit and relax. The air conditioning was effective and didn't keep me awake. The garden is large, with a pool, stretching right down onto the beach. Breakfast was served in the garden and differed from day to day...very tasty and kept us going until late in the day. Hammocks and relaxing chairs are dotted around, and the perfect way to listen to the beautiful birds singing. Jerome and Karine also do their own flavoured rum, and you'll see bottles fermenting on the bar outside. The guest house and garden, and the secluded beach, was everything we wanted and more. The perfect spot to chill and relax, without being disturbed. My idea of heaven. The lagoon has crystal clear waters and soft white sand...totally unspoilt. The water is shallow and you can walk some distance to the natural rocks/coral barrier. At times all you could hear was the lapping of the waves. Albion is a quiet place, with a few eateries and street shacks, which is exactly what we wanted. We needed a complete break and got exactly this. They are a short walk from the guest house and very reasonably priced. Jerome would offer to drive us but we chose to walk. The island of Mauritius is stunning and we spent a couple of days sightseeing. It is such a beautiful island. I will definitely return to the island and, without a shadow of a doubt, to La Maison de la Plage. I loved its location on the west side...peace, beauty and nature all wrapped into one.

If you seek luxury, this is not for you, but if you seek peace, comfort, sea and sun, warm hospitality and chance to relax, this is your place. Right beside the beach, good pool, breakfast is good. Staff is so friendly, house is your house while your staying there. Karine and Jerome will help you every time in need of assistance. About 10 restaurants in walking distance, public beach in sight, 2 minutes away, 2 supermarkets very close, and so is the bus stop. It is easy to go for example Port Louis by public transport and cheap. You get your money's worth, that's for sure!!

An outstanding little Gem on the West side of the island. We had pre arranged with the owners for a taxi to pick us up from the airport and the driver Jimmy was there as requested. We were greeted by the owners on arrival and from that moment on we were made to feel very welcome, and they will do anything to help you. We were shown to our room which overlooked the sea. A king sized bed with a separate shower en suite. Breakfast was included and they changed it most days. This little guest home is literally on the beach with its wonderful clear waters, where you can walk out for about 300 metres and it’s still only chest deep. We hired “Jimmy the taxi driver”twice more and he took us to many of the tourist attractions plus other places you probably wouldn’t find on your own. My wife and I both said we would 100% go back to Mauritius but more importantly we would definitely stay at this gem of a place again There are a few restaurants and a couple of supermarkets all within a 10-25 minute walk (or if you hire a car within a few minutes) There are also 4 or 5 food shacks which if your’re like me you must try. If you are going to hire a car do it from the guest house as it is a hell of a lot cheaper (about £25 per day) than doing it either at the airport or online. Personally I couldn’t fault the place and I would highly recommend to anyone who asked me. There are only 5 guest rooms and that is the beauty of the place. All the staff are extremely helpful and polite. Small and friendly If you want a truly chilled out holiday then this is the place. If you want a hotel with lots of activities and an all inclusive holiday then this isn’t for you. What a little gem of a place. % beautiful bedrooms all overlooking the bay and getting views of great sunsets. Karine our host was so helpful, welcoming and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The girls who worked there were delightful. Breakfast in the garden was a delight each day with local food and fresh bakes cakes. The gardens were lovely and led straight on to the beach which when we were there was empty, fabulous. Canoes available for fun times and safe inside the reef. Great for snorkelling. We had a wonderful time and cannot recommend La Maison de la Plage highly enough.

This place is simply fantastic, it's a gem on the western coast of Mauritius. I had a spacious room with direct access to the garden, the pool area and the beach. Excellent breakfast with everything you need. Karine and Jerôme are excellent hosts (beside the fact that they have a very tasty collection of spiced rums) and they made me feel at home for two days. Albion itself is a quiet place with many locals, no large resorts, a nice beach and a couple of good restaurants.
