Beautiful colonial hotel in a fantastic location in Antigua, it has a beautiful rooftop with a great view of the city with the added feature of the “I love Antigua” sign. In the rooftop you can go for drinks, a romantic date or simply grab a bite. The room was big, comfortable and kudos to the renovated bathrooms with a great shower. Everyone was very nice, overall great experience
Casa Bella Boutique Hotel

My booking was an accident, and it was a most fortunate one. Seeking an escape from the virus and cold ravaged northeastern shore of the Americas I fled to the warm heart of the world; nestled in a valley among the towering and sometimes fiery volcanoes. When I visit Antigua I like to try out the many small boutique hotels in the city, but I believe I have found a new favorite. I chose Casa Bella based on its location, close to the central square and all the sites, but also in the up and coming southeast side of town. I made my booking on Expedia, but when I reached out to the hotel to schedule an airport transfer I found out that the availability had been made available via a technical glitch. The management had been using the COVID closure to do a full renovation of the space, and weren’t quite expecting to welcome guests quite yet. But after a call with the very cool owner who let me know what status was, I decided to give it a try. What I got was a first class stay. The redesign was a very cool, modern, reinterpretation of the Antigua baroque style. The room was outfitted with the most comfortable bed and bedding I have slept on in Antigua, and the bathroom was kitted out with fluffy towels and modern fittings, great water pressure and hot water both in the shower and soaking tub. It was also the first place I have stayed in town that had enough/easily accessible power points available to charge your devices and camera. It might seem like a small thing, but that is a rarity in Antigua. The amenities included daily bottled water, quality soaps/shampoo, a tasty breakfast, top notch coffee, and blazing fast, rock solid wi-fi. As we were still Prisoners of COVID the Casa Bella gets full marks for their attention to protocol and high standard of cleanliness. The staff were simply super. Amazingly helpful and friendly. All in it was a top notch stay, there was a little construction dust as the public spaces received their polish and finishing touches, but that, like everything else, was well managed and didn’t detract from my stay. I look forward to a return visit to enjoy the complete experience. On a tangential note. If you need a COVID test to return home, there is clinic around the block by the name of Laboratorio Juan Pablo II where you can walk up and make an appointment for your test. The hotel really is in a great location.
Hotel Las Camelias Inn by Ahs

I really enjoyed my stay at Las Camelias. The front desk was very helpful and friendly and they offered complimentary coffee and filtered water in the hotel lobby. This is great because you should not drink the tap water in Guatemala. The hotel was also well located and walking distance from everything. Antigua as a whole os very walkable. The hotel has an open elevated patio with views of the volcanos and the room I stayed in was very clean with a lovely large shower. The front desk helped me book a vehicle to get to Lake Atitlan and even helped a colleague of mine who was not a resident of the hotel. I also liked the amount of greenery in the hotel. It added a quaint charm. Only small downside was some spotty wifi in the room and the walls are a bit thin so you can here some external sounds. I would recommend this hotel to individuals traveling on budget looking for a clean, comfortable and well appointed apace.
Hostal Antigua

Hotel Aurora

I loved everything about this hotel and stayed for 6 nights. Super convenient location - close to Central Park, artisan market, restaurants, ruins, etc. Lovely courtyard with flowers and shaded outdoor seating areas outside each room. My room was very clean and had antique furniture that was charming, sturdy, and comfortable. My room included a mini-fridge, a floor/tower fan, desk, safe, etc. and a window to the street that opened from the side or tilted open from the top for ventilation and privacy. A continental breakfast is included (coffee/tea, orange juice, bread, fruit, yogurt, granola) - this was good but you also have the option to request additional items (eggs, meat, etc) for a reasonable price. I felt very safe and relaxed here and would recommend it to anyone.

Villa Colonial

You feel at home immediately you enter reception and meet the welcoming staff. The grounds are lovely with a beutiful views of the Volcanoes from restaurant and garden. The rooms have been quirkily set out as streets of houses with a cobbled road (not great for wheeling a suitcase especially when you are right at the back!). Our room was in a small courtyard containing several others on two storeys, it comprised two double beds with ample space adn a large shower/loo area. A hairdryer was provided and water stations were plentiful outside. This unfortunately is where the cons kick in, our room was situated right at the far left of the complex and a busy noisy road ran alongside so during it was very noisy both day and night! Maybe ask for a room on the garden side of the complex which should be quieter! There is a nice pool and the open fronted restaurant has stunning views of Volcano Fuego - which was kindly puffing smoke during our visit! Breakfast was served to order, only 3 choices - We had Omlette - ham/cheese or cheese/spinach - served with mashed beans, tortilla and hot plantain - juice - tea -coffee. It was reasonable but service was very slow especially for tea refils. Overall a nice hotel, with pleasant staff but situated a good 25 minutes walk from the town centre which given the traffic noise is not much of a plus. Would we stay again ? - yes but we would request rooms next to the garden which I suspect were much quieter. Also meaning we didn't have to negotiate the cobbled street with our wheelie bags.
Hotel Casa Antigua by Ahs

If you are looking for a traditional hotel in Antigua that is centrally located, this may be your place. What you need to know is that it shares similar characteristics to many of the hotels in the area. This type of hotel was once a traditional home with rooms centered around courtyards (I can't provide a reference here, this is just anecdotal information from 17 years of traveling to Antigua and staying in many different hotels. Although, ChatGPT did a great job describing what I believe is a traditional or antique home in Antigua). I stayed in room #4, not because I needed four beds, but it was the only room available. This is a great room in every sense of the word. It was most likely the living room as it is in the center of the hotel off the main courtyard/garden. That said, while it provides for an abundance of fresh air, which is often lacking in some of these types of hotel rooms, it is not insulated from the daily activities of the hotel, including guests coming and going, guests eating outside the room, or the chorus of birds that welcome the day for you precisely at the same time every day - no need for an alarm clock! This room has a high ceiling of traditional timber frames and dark wood, with a huge, ornate chandelier hanging in the center. It's beautiful! While the bathroom is simple, it's more than sufficient - the ample shower has hot water delivered to you using updated plumbing (no need to worry about getting electrocuted by a ”widow maker” showerhead with exposed wires). I'm a pretty low-maintenance kind of guy when it comes to where we stay (although, my partner may disagree with me). If you are an independent, self-reliant traveler, that will spend most of your time outside of the hotel than inside, this hotel will meet your needs.
Hotel Posada de Don Rodrigo Antigua

Stepping into Hotel Posada de Don Rodrigo was like taking a journey back to the early days of the Spanish colonial city in Guatemala. The doors, ceilings, courtyard, floors, and decor capture that time to make staying at the hotel like living in a museum. The hotel is lovingly restored and maintained. My favorite room was the restaurant with a spectacular intricate carved wood ceiling painted green and other colors. There's a wonderful old fountain on one wall. In the mornings and evenings, a band plays Spanish music. At night, dancers in costumes perform as well. The room, performers and excellent food and drinks make a visit to the restaurant a don't miss event. When we came back to Antigua a second time before our flight out, we decided to go back to the restaurant for dinner again because we loved it so much. We especially enjoyed the beef tenderloin and sangria. The courtyard is lush and green, with a series of colorful paintings set on easels capturing various sites, and flora and fauna of Guatemala. Flowering plants and the chirping of birds add to the ambiance making for a romantic and charming setting. The rooms line the courtyard with eclectic sitting areas with furniture consistent with the colonial era. There are large pottery urns sprinkled throughout providing water for drinking. The contrast between the hectic street right outside of the hotel, smack in the middle of all of the action, and the serene open hallways and courtyard is striking. We were a bit disappointed our room was very small with just a standard double bed. My husband is 6 foot 6 and it was snug. The only window was a hinged opening in the heavy dark wood antique door out to the courtyard. There was no safe in the room which concerned us because we didn't want to carry all of our cash with us. We ended up hiding money in the room. I suspect we didn't need to work so hard to hide it because when we left money out to tip the people who made up our room, they didn't take it. This happened in other hotels in Guatemala as well. There's security at the front door and the staff members were all warm, friendly, eager to assist, and competent. We didn't expect air-conditioning, and there wasn't any. During the day, the room did get a bit warm and stuffy, but by evening, it cooled off enough to be comfortable. Despite the hotel's age, it was spotless and well-maintained. We ended up staying in three different hotels in Antigua during our trip. This one was my favorite, despite the small room, because the attention to every detail was so thorough. It is an unforgettable place and among the highlights of our trip.
