Hotel Zlatni Bor

I visited here as part of a tour and was put in a room in the building to the right of the restaurant. We had some people in their 70’s with us and there is no lift so they needed help from fellow passengers to get their suitcases to their rooms. Rooms basic but comfortable. Only things I wish I could have had were curtains that covered the window as I’m quite a light sleeper, and a kettle in the room. A lot of hotels in our trip didn’t seem to have kettles in their rooms. The area was suffering from a power cut when we arrived which was tricky and it lasted until about 7.30pm but we sat and had a few drinks with candle light and cheered when power restored!

This national restaurant was our the best choice. Prices are super, portions are big and stuff is very friendly. This restaurant offer domestic meat and milk products and they are know for it in whole Montenegro. We ate jagnjetina, teletina and kacamak and we delighted. Also, for breakfast you can choose between buffet (which is really chip per person) or a la carte option. If you choose a la carte, I suggest you “masanica and kiselo mlijeko” which is made of domestic baken bread, cheese and milk cream. Simply perfect.

This hotel was very nice and surpassed our expectations. The hotel is split into 2 buildings. We stayed in rooms 10&11 which are above the main restaurant and in a separate building to the other rooms. They are up a small outside staircase. There is a covered landing area and the two rooms are next door to each other. They were very spacious rooms and lovely and warm bearing in mind it was -9 degrees C outside! It had a wardrobe, desk, double sofa bed in the lounge area. In the bedroom area there was a double bed and flat screen TV. It had Netflix. On the desk there was an electric kettle. No tea/coffee or mugs provided. There was a mini fridge. I asked for mugs in the restaurant and it was no problem at all. I bought my own tea from home so all was good. There was also a lounge are overlooking the street with arm chairs and a coffee table. The restaurant downstairs served a buffet breakfast with local cheeses, meats and sausages. Fantastic eggs, fried and scrambled. Cereals, bread and juices, tea and coffee. We also ate evening meals there. Great food, huge portions and very good value. En-suite bathroom had corner shower with the most powerful shower. Really refreshing. Toilet and basin plus hairdryer. Room 11 had 2 bedrooms and an en-suite shower. We would definitely stay again

I have stayed with a tourist group at this hotel on 12 of September 2022. The hotel is clean and the rooms are rather good. But, on the early check out I forgot my expensive power bank at the room. In about half an hour after departure while sightseeing around I realized that I didn’t take with me the power bank. I clearly remembered that I left it charging on bedside table. When we returned back in about 1 hour the room was already cleaned and my power bank was not there. I asked housemaid and after the owner of the hotel and they told me that there was nothing there. And they tried to convince me that I could forget it elsewhere. But I was 100% sure that I forgot the power bank in their hotel. They refused to return me my power bank!!!

Let's start with 2 positives - The bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean. The 2nd is downstairs, the decor is a traditional, warm and potentially cosy Montenegrin restaurant. However, in my experience, those were the only 2 positives. I know we all have different standards and perceptions and we value different things, so a review is always very subjective, but there were some things that I think most of us would be shocked to find in an hotel room, even a budget one: In our room, for example... - An electric socket hanging out - The toilet seat hanging off (it was just balanced on top of the toilet!) - A big gap at the bottom of the shower - which meant that the (tiny, worn) bathroom flooded badly when I showered. All the water ran under the tiles and onto the bathroom floor. - An empty coke bottle and an empty wine bottle in the strange kitchenette unit that was along one one wall in the bedroom - The stink of cigarette smoke in the bedroom and public areas. - The awful night's sleep because the room was right next to the stairs with a door that was not on a lever so it kept banging with people coming and going. - The room looked like it was last decorated in the 1970s, with faded, lopsided pictures on the wall, broken venetian blinds, a broken electric radiator (with its control mechanism hanging off), rusting shower head, odd "house that jack built" plumbing, random filled holes in tiles and furniture that looked really old and worn (and so the room didn't feel clean or fresh). Our evening meal was included in the rate and we were given the choice between "steak" and "vegetarian. The "steak" was a tough piece of pork, stuffed with some strong purple salty bacon (I think it was bacon anyway). The vegetarian option was a pile of vegetables with so much cheese that it was not eatable beyond a few over-rich, over-salty mouthfuls. The service from the waitresses can best be described as basic. I really don't like giving bad reviews to small businesses and would usually offer feedback to the owner/manager wherever possible, but nobody asked about our experience at any point during our stay. Given the state of our room and the food we were served, I don't get the feeling that the managers really care about creating a high-quality experience for guests. Reading some of the other reviews here, it seems like some have had pleasant stays: it's almost like they stayed at a different hotel! I believe that there's a newer part to this hotel being built - maybe that's where others who have given good reviews have stayed? Maybe it's better in the newer part? Maybe their food was better as they had a choice from the menu? I don't know.. it's a mystery.
