While checking in, the staff gave me the wrong paperwork to sign with an increased price than the one quoted when I reserved the room. When I question that they shredded the form I had signed and gave me a new one with the correct price. I put that down as an honest mistake. We threw our bags into the room before leaving to go eat dinner. Upon return several hours later, there was a strong, overwhelming smell of pot coming from the room next door. I also discovered a used dirty washcloth hanging from the shower curtain rack with human hair stuck to it. We went to the office to request either a room change or a refund. The office staff seemed irritated at our concerns, and never apologized for anything. She just made excuses that housekeeping comes before she gets to her shift in the evening and she can’t control what guest do once they get in their room. When I requested a room near the front of the property, she said they were fully booked for the night so I asked for a refund. She was then able to find an empty room, which upon inspection was OK. Between the odor, the nasty wash cloth, and the front desk attitude, we will never stay at another Howard Johnson’s again.
