We were heading down to Santa Rosa, with a stop over in Ferndale. Decided to take a detour at the last minute to Shelter Cove and I'm so glad we did! While to steep mountain climb up, then down, with endless sharp turns was daunting, we loved the end result of Shelter Cove. We both thought about getting a room for the night and happened upon Inn of the Lost Coast. The gentleman at the reception was wonderful helping us to get the best deal for one night and gave us a great room with a wonderful ocean view of the King Tides. He recommended restaurants and places to view the sunset and the King Tides, in addition to giving us a history of the area. I wish we were staying more than one night. The room was nice with a small kitchenette, very clean, and homey feeling. Plenty of pillows and blankets.bi would definitely come back and I've already recommended it to others.

Husband and I came out with the dogs to enjoy and experience Shelter Cove. The Inn of the Lost Coast did not disappoint. Abby was super friendly during check-in and check-out. The room was immaculate with a comfy bed, fireplace, fridge and coffee maker! We were greeted with friendly deer as soon as we opened the back door to the patio. We all enjoyed sleeping with the back door open, listening to waves crash all night as God's perfect A/C lulled us to sleep. Black Sands Bistro has the best coffee on the coast and highly recommend anything from their menu, especially the homemade french toast with orange syrup. Mi Mochima across the street was amazing for dinner. We'll definitely be returning.

The Inn of The Lost Coast is situated perfectly on the coast to listen to and watch the waves. Waking up and going to sleep with that sound soothes the soul. The rooms are super comfortable and roomy and the staff go above and beyond. Good food is at the hotel and also a short walk away and there's always entertainment in this small town, and NO TRAFFIC. We loved our walks down the coast in the mornings and hanging out at different spots each night at sunset, drink in hand and friendly people nearby. 11 out of 10

I can't say enough great things about this place. If you're looking for hustle and bustle and crowds, this place isn't for you, but if you're looking for seclusion and peace away from the rest of the world with the most stunning views a person could ask for then this IS the place to visit. We spent two days here in a corner view room and it broke my heart to leave. The view is breathtaking!!! We visited seal rock and watched the seals for a hour, abalone point was beautiful, and black sand beach was a little piece of heaven. All these places are within walking distance from the hotel. Our last day we visited the light house and saw about 30 sea lions. This isn't a five star resort but you are paying for the views and in my opinion if your focusing on the hotel room (which is perfectly fine) and not the wonders of this magical place you probably don't belong. The drive up is beautiful. It's a bit long and slow climbing up hill but it's worth it!! We will be back again and again.

Wonderful place with amazing views. Rooms are nice and clean, staff is friendly and helpful. Worth the trip to get here (quite a road in!) so plan on a couple days. Restaurant in town was great and the atmosphere is so relaxing. Even got to drive on the beach! We will definitely be visiting again.

Stayed there night of May 31st, 2024. Very good price/value, wonderful views!, room and bed were very comfortable, Front desk lady friendly and helpful. Maintenance of hotel not good. Had to call to replace 2 lightbulbs in room -- she came with light bulbs and I replaced. Biggest problem was locks and security for room. Front door deadbolt could not be locked from outside leaving just the flimsy front doorknob lock when we left for outings, bathroom window lock didnt work with bathroom right on hallway corridor (people walking by), and sliding door to balcony looking over ocean had broken lock (not working). Hotel great if you dont care about security!

My family thought I was crazy selecting this out of the way location on our way up the North Coast of California to see the redwoods. We are so glad we stayed here. Accommodations were comfortable. Nothing fancy, but the Little Black Sands Beach was sooo amazing. We arrived there right around sunset. Only people on the beach. It was foggy and the waves so angry I felt a special kind of connection to the sea and the world outside of human interactions. Very cool

I paid $930 total for Thursday and Friday. (The rate goes up $80 for the weekend) Was I wrong to expect a premium experience? Well, the ocean view from the private sitting area is fabulous, except for the triple railing right at eye level. The Jacuzzi is a nice touch, but only adequate for two Asian children. Didn't use the sauna. The food area consists of a microwave, a sink, a micro fridge, and a two cup coffee maker, but only one packet of coffee. That's a quarter packet per person per day. There were two wine glasses but no corkscrew, not even a bottle opener or a roll of paper towels. A mini-bar? Dream on. There was a tiny basket of the very cheapest kiddie snacks -with a price list. I usually tip housekeeping but there was none. So, pack your camping kit and enjoy Inn of the Lost Wallet.
