Staying in budget hotels is a bit like speed dating: you go in with optimism but brace yourself for a few surprises. Our time at this hotel in Varginha? Let’s just say it was an experience—one that began, quite memorably, with the unmistakable scent of leaking garbage drifting through the air. Not just any garbage, mind you. No, this had the bold, unmistakable bouquet of something that had spent too long marinating in the sun. A leaking trash bag from the top-floor restaurant had made its way downstairs, spreading its charms along the way. We mentioned it to the front desk, but by the next morning, the smell was still faintly hanging around like an awkward guest who didn’t know when to leave. The room itself was, well, functional. Small and basic, but it did the job if all you needed was a place to sleep and a roof over your head. There was a large, mysterious stain beneath the air conditioner, stretching all the way to the floor like some forgotten abstract mural. The air conditioner worked, but only in that “I’ll try, but don’t expect miracles” sort of way. On the plus side, breakfast was fine. Not spectacular, but perfectly serviceable if you just needed to fill up before venturing out. Think of it as the hotel equivalent of a gas station snack: you won’t remember it, but it gets you where you need to be. And speaking of getting places, the location wasn’t bad. The mall was within easy walking distance, making it convenient for a quick escape or a bite to eat. The rooftop view was another unexpected perk, offering a decent panoramic snapshot of the town. I wouldn’t say it made me fall in love with Varginha, but it did offer a nice moment to pause and take in the scenery. Secure parking is there if you need it also. The very small pool was closed for a function, but as it necessitated taking the lift it wasn't an option. Would I stay here again? Maybe (Ok Probably not), but I’d come armed with air freshener and a sense of adventure. This hotel is what you make of it—if you focus on the quirks and laugh along the way, you’ll have a story to tell. If you don’t, well, at least breakfast will be waiting for you in the morning.
