Hacienda San Miguel Yucatan

We are three very experienced travelers who have been traveling together for many years. We only stayed one night in three rooms at Hacienda San Miguel. I usually do not write reviews about places in which I stay for only one night. However, Hacienda San Miguel deserves special mention. I have stayed in perhaps a thousand hotels in my seventy five years in many countries. If you are ready to enjoy the quiet beauty of Yucatán, you should spend some time here. I see that many of the reviews are several years old which was before the current hotel operator took over the place. I cannot say what it looked like then, but now it is beautifully repainted, with the extensive grounds and pool area in perfect shape. As the three of us sat on the wonderful front porch in the very comfortable chairs provided, we agreed that we felt like the richest people in the world. This is a very historic building, beautifully updated but still very much in the period of that time. The Hacienda is about 15-20 minutes from Valladolid, Yucatán, which is a favorite town of mine. It has grown from how it was even ten years ago and you can find excellent food and facilities there. However, it is very much worth the easy trip to stay at Hacienda San Miguel where you are stepping away from town life to a very peaceful place. The rooms were very comfortable and, as with the rest of the hacienda, meticulously clean and well provided. We were made to feel like family friends. Thank you Juan. We hope to see you soon.

We had the most amazing time at hacienda San Miguel near Valladolid. So peacefull. The hacienda is recently renovated but with all historical details. The yellow color is a beautiful contrast with the original floors and the green of the garden. It reminded me immediately of the town of Izamal, and later Juan told us it was actually inspired by this town. We were so happy to stay here that we decided to come back at the end of our trip. We got the chance to stay in one The rooms are beautiful and very clean. If you like the privacy, you would love the villa. The breakfast menu is also very good (we tried almost every dish on the menu). Everybody in the hacienda was extremely kind, hardworking and helpfull. They put in great effort to make it a beautiful place to stay. From the people at the deks, to the ladies in the housekeeping and at the breakfast, and the men working in the garden and the land. The hacienda is avbout 10 minutes from Valladolid and very easy to drive there. The town of Uayma is also nearby and has a beautiful church. Also there are a lot of cenotes in the area that are lovely to visit.

Positives: Quiet and peaceful. Close to nature. Historical and authentic architecture. Very large room. Parking. Good base for Chichen Itza and Valladolid. Villas were clean. Appreciated the mosquito nets on all windows. AC and fans was a plus. Excellent WIFI. Lovely chapel. Nice paths to walk or run around the Hacienda. Friendly personell. Opportunities for improvement: No instructions for the Safe in the Villa. The food was mediocre at best. The whole place looks run down and poorly maintained. Huge potential to make this place amazing and high-end for people wanting to retreat from the hot streets of Valladolid. The property is spacious and has huge potential. Potential of several revenue streams here of they update the place (Spa, Museum, Hotel, local artisian stall, petting zoo, local flora and fauna presentation, bar, high-end restaurant if they hire a proper chef, star observatory). Almost want to buy the place to fix it up… Feel sad for the horse and peacocks that are stuck inside tiny enclosures. Would rather have them roam on the park…

From the outside the hotel looks very beautiful. Antique building on a big piece of land but the service is poorer than poor and the rooms are horribly old, very bad facilities and as such our visit was a total waste of time and money. Furthermore the manager was incapeable of solving our issues and even charged us for 2 nights whereas we only staid 1 night and never agreed on a second night. We needed American Express to do an expensive survey into the way the manager charged us to conclude the hotel did not have any right to charge us. Horrible experience in such a nice country. Shame on you management/ owners of this 'hotel'.

En positif : hacienda avec un énorme potentiel - eau chaude pour la douche ... En négatif : photos non représentatives de la réalité - chambres humides et mauvaise odeur - pas de restaurant le midi ou le soir - pas de bar - hacienda fermée le 2ème soir et personne à la réception pour notre départ - nous étions les seuls clients des 2 nuits - pas de wifi dans les chambres - la dame (seule) du petit déjeuner est fort gentille mais fait avec les moyens du bord - à 15 min de Valladolid en voiture : il faut absolument être motorisé A prix équivalent, il vaut mieux loger au centre ville pour profiter des soirées
