Tahoe Sands Resort

Terrible stay. No heat! Place is tired. Lots of deferred maintenance. Broken light fixtures, bare light bulbs. Kitchenette appliances beat to hell. Shower was size of a phone booth, with crumbling grout. No heat while temperature outside was in the teens.

I really don't like giving bad reviews but this place is beyond horrible. We were tempted by the low price and I should have known better. The pictures on the website are not the true representation of this property. We booked a studio and it was suppose to be "lakeside" however we were given a disgusting 1960's style cabin (and not in a cool way) across the VERY busy road from the lake. The room was basically uninhabitable with an extremely musky smell, a Murphy bed that was SO uncomfortable, an out of date sofa bed, a ridiculous little kitchenette that was dysfunctional and a bathroom where the water pressure would go from scalding to cold. When the bed was pulled down there was no room to walk to the front door from the bathroom and kitchenette. No air conditioning and didn't want to leave the windows open due to bears. The road that seems to be the hotel property actually leads to another small road where people live--all night long there was a tow truck and other cars speeding through the property. Walls are thin and we could literally hear our neighbors every cough. The relaxing few days we had hoped for was instead a huge disappointment and we left one day early--we were not offered any refund. I sincerely do not know how they can rent these rooms out with a good conscious. Beyond the rooms the property that IS lakeside has the potential to be a great place but it is very tired and in need of much updating. As far as positives...front desk ladies were very nice, private beach. So much potential wasted at this property. We have been visiting Tahoe for over 40 years and never had such a bad experience.

Lovely one-bed suite, comfortable and spacious: clean, well maintained and well/ equipped. Great pool and hot tub, easy beach access with loungers (yes, we did swim in lake!) Very helpful and efficient staff - Sophie and team, maintenance ( who sorted bbq for our use). Altogether wonderful couple of nights- hope to return someday (from UK)
