This is a comfortable well managed 4 star (!) bed & breakfast, very well designed. It offers comfortable double rooms each with spotless ensuites and fluffy towels. There is also great breakfast selection. We stayed over to attend a local party and arrived after 3pm to be warmly welcomed by Pauline. When check-in arrangements were done, Pauline helpfully advised us how to access the front door as we knew we'd be late in. Our room No 5 offered plenty of closet space with wooden hangers. Happily the en-suite's electric shower was easy to manage with plenty of hot water available (not something always experienced at other bed & breakfasts). Althoughe Athlumney Manor was fully booked the night we stayed, we got a great sleep and didn't hear any other guests. The next morning we visited the diningroom and host Pat showed us our table. The breakfast room has a welcoming buffey of cereal varieties, fresh ripe fruit (including apricots and kiwis!). While we helped ourselves to orange juice, Pat ordered our Irish breakfasts by in-house telephone. He then served our tea. We were very impressed with the ease of how breakfast is arranged and soon a piping hot delicious Irish breakfast was in front of us both. Athlumney Manor offers advantages in that it is within walking distance of Navan's town centre, the bus stop to Dublin's city centre is only a few steps away, and less than a half hour off-peak from Dublin Airport. We can confirm the local taxi service recommended by Pat and Pauline offers polite, timely service 24/7. Pauline and Pat also have a great selection of tour books available to read in the breakfast room. I skimmed through several coies of Fodors, Collins, Lonely Planet travel books on Ireland. We were only sorry we could not stay a second night. Before we departed, host Pat gave us helpful suggestions on visiting the locality and local walks (e.g. The Ramparts, a 6.5km Boyne River walk, whose start is less than 1km from Athlumney Manor with public parking). We walked up the 6.5km and back before heading home. Historic old buildings line the river, including an old castle and we passed many walkers out enjoying recently rare sunshine all offering a hello as we passed. Whether you are travelling from within Ireland or visiting from abroad, Athlumney Manor is a very relaxing peaceful place to stay. We will be back.
