Sugar Mill Hotel

Absolutely stunning property with the most laid back vibe while having 5 star service. Upon earlty arrival after a week on a boat, they greeted us with a cold towel and beverage. Explained the layout of hotel, restaurant and pool info etc. We needed an early taxi and early departure, they arranged that along with a to go breakfast. The room was adorable, older style but very cute. We ate at both restaurants - casual beachside Tramonti for lunch it was ok, slow service and pizza was just ok. But dinner was spectacular, probably in my top 5 ever. Service was 5 star, baked bread amazing, rissotto with shrimp delicious and the sticky toffee pudding devine. Our only complaint was our room was literally on the road, so noisy and the bathroom was open to outside so very very load. Room 143, no one mentioned that the property is on the main road, something I wish I knew so I would pick a room higher up on the hill. The views from hotel and especially restaurants are to die for. I would recommend to all and can't wait to return.

Wow! Was even better than I hoped. The view from the room was incredible. The staff were all amazing; friendly and helpful. The room itself was spacious and spotless. They offered everything that you could need, including sunscreen by the pool in case you forgot. The dining room was just beautiful... loved that all the dining was open air. The breakfasts were delish and plentiful. Anything we needed could be arranged including transport. Almost no noise unless you count the sea and the sounds of the island. Almost no insects either. Weather was perfect. We were there before high season started so nothing was too busy. Highly recommend!

I just spent 8 days here on a solo vacation. I was nervous as a single woman traveling alone outside the US for the first time but I felt completely safe the entire time. The hotel is small (maybe 23 rooms), so while I enjoyed the quiet and solitude I never felt isolated. The rooms are organized so that each building has a few rooms and the buildings are placed throughout the large, hilly, heavily-treed property and separated with walking paths. Point is, it's not just one giant box with rooms in it. It's a truly unique place where you instantly feel at home while being in a tropical paradise. Staff is responsive, always friendly, and they basically take care of your every need. Housekeeping did an amazing job. The hotel is managed by Andrea and Rupert, a super nice married couple that go above and beyond to help you out. The restaurants onsite were excellent. I didn't have a bad meal there the entire stay and I ate every meal there bc I didn't have a car and there isn't really a way to walk to one, since the hotel is kind of by itself on a two lane road with no sidewalk. Some reviews note this as a negative but it made it so that the hotel felt private and a true retreat. My room was absolutely perfect (room 102, the "Breadfruit Tree" room). It had a gorgeous balcony that was private because of the huge breadfruit tree just outside but the left hand side of the balcony had a direct view of the ocean. It was perfection. The room is standard Caribbean decor - cute rattan furniture, a table if you have to do some work (which I did, unfortunately), book collection, Nespresso, mini-fridge - pretty much everything you need. The pool is small but it works and has a kitchen that functions as the honor bar. This isn't a party scene - it was pretty much all couples and a few solos like me, and it was a VERY quiet hotel. Only a few kids were there while I was, and because you have to cross the road to access the beach and beach restaurant (where breakfast and lunch are served) it's probably not the best for children. It doesn't claim to be a hotel that's good for kids - which also makes it ideal for quiet relaxation. The beach is cute, and private, but note it's not a snorkel beach - Apple Bay is a surf beach and the surf was surfing my entire stay. I would 10000% stay again without hesitation and the only thing I would change would be renting a car since it is remote.

This was the best experience of my wife and my life. We have been spoiled for everything going forward. Rupert and Andrea who manage the property were incredible and anticipated anything and everything you could want and delivered at the highest level of quality. Breakfast and lunch at Tramonti on the beach and dinner at the Sugar Mill itself was exquisite. Most all inclusives are either buffet or a very restricted menu. This pace as not as both restaurants had full menus and top shlef wines and liquors my wife and I tried every single item on the menus as well as all the specialty drinks and loved them all. The accommodations were lovely and the entire staff was friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend booking for a week or more which includes the Tortola tour with champagne lunch (at one point we were taken to a beach that we had all to ourselves) and the snorkel trip with Fiona as an incredible boat captain (the lunch provided by the sugar mill was delicious as well). We will be coming back end of next October and look to make it an annual pilgrimage. Thank you so much to Rupert Andrea and the rest of the staff that took such good care of us.

Hotel is ideally set near Apple Bay, with stunning views across to Jost Van Dyke. Booked a 2 night stay to have a complete winddown and the hotel did not disappoint with the quality of the rooms and the exceptional quality of the restaurant. All staff make guests most welcome to make guests feel at ease. We shall return !

We have been staying at this hotel for over 20 years. On a visit last week, we were shocked to see the charming Caribbean hotel we had grown to love turned into a commercial mess! The beautiful dining room has been "updated" to one with a rubber floor and luncheonette-like tables and chairs. The furniture now is bland and very unattractive. We wish we had our old Sugar Mill back!!!
