Probably the best oceanfront government campsite in BC, at least on the island / south coast. Bathrooms and showers great. Beach access 3min walk downhill from campsites (5min uphill on return, if lugging heavy gear make that 10min). Long Beach park speaks for itself, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Since this is a national park, my only negative observations were, staff are generally cold and unfriendly (very "government employee" vibe you detect immediately). Checking in, the employee at the booth was very unwelcoming. It actually made our arrival very weird (never having been here) and questioning if we were going to even like it here? Especially when you haven't set foot yet even in your site and feel like you're already in trouble with the staff just for arriving? Like other reviews have mentioned, the rules here are excessive and strictly enforced. Frankly it's overkill and they've forgotten what the point of this campsite is supposed to be, people and families getting to enjoy nature. Concerns over "a bear in the area" are valid but running around in electric carts and confiscating peoples EMPTY small 2 burner propane stoves because there COULD be an odour on the stove is overkill and just bums people out. I don't even have to make an argument on this point, just look to the number of other campsites that would do this (having visited probably over 60? unique sites in Canada/US)...the answer is 0 campsites have this protocol. So if you can handle that at times your entire family might not be able to all go to the bathroom at the same time or go see the sunset because you've still got some CLEAN dishes out that have to be put away first (otherwise they will literally be stolen by the staff while you're gone), then you'll still love it here. You just have to give up and comply to the government over-regulation and overall unfriendliness of the staff. The good news is you can ignore them, just don't do anything to attract their attention (look at their brochure, look at their rules, follow it) and you'll have a great time, hopefully never having to talk to them.
