Dar Tanger Medina

Staying here, in the Medina, is definitely a different way to experience Tangier – but I don’t think I’ll return. Not that difficult to find (google maps worked amazingly well in the Medina and the Kasbah). The staff were very friendly and helpful, checkin was fine, bear in mind you have to pay in cash when checking in. My room was decently sized, nicely decorated with Moroccan lamps and woodwork. Small flat-screen with a few channels, including BBC. Wifi worked fine, in room and at breakfast. No real storage space apart from a cupboard with a few shelves. There’s an a/c which worked fine. Small table and two chairs. The room was not really well-maintained, Out of two beautiful Moroccan lamps, one had a horrible white led bulb, one wasn’t working. The bathroom was large, but the shower head holder was broken. The room is carpeted, but the carpets (and the bathroom mats) were not clean at all. The windows opened onto the street, and it was noisy, even late at night – despite closing the windows and the rolling blinds. Breakfast was good – some fruit, bread, spreads, juice, coffee, tea – individually served.

Worst stay in Morocco . We had travelled from Canada 🇨🇦 and had a fabulous time in Merakesh / Fes and then terrible in Tangier . The manager Larby charged us the booking fee, would smoke in the common roof top area . Morocco is a beautiful country and people minus this place !

There are better deals to be had if you know what you are doing. But you should at least stay once here in the Medina (a market maze). You are .1 mile from Cafe Baba where celebrities like the Stones and expat artists, Kerouac, Burroughs, Tennessee Williams, hashed. Staff is friendly and very helpful in finding what you need.

This has been the greatest hotel that I have ever stayed in. The service of both the manager, and the employees has been out of this world. We have enjoyed two nights here in Tangier, and have loved everything that the manager has recommended. They have scheduled tours for us and given us excellent places to dine. The accommodations are lovely, with fantastic bedrooms and pristine bathrooms. They even include an exceptional breakfast that is so delicious. It is made clear that your comfort is their priority here. The staff genuinely wants to ensure that you have an amazing time during your time in Tangier. My family and I will be back in the future, and I thank everyone here for being so welcoming!

Liked · What a wonderful establishment. Of course in Morocco you”re not going to find Howard Johnson style cookie cutter hotels. Each hotel is unique and Dar Tanger has all the colourful, exotic Moroccan decor you’d expect at a great location down an alleyway in the Medina. What’s really cool is the proprietor Larbi. He has a big heart and personality, has run more than one business in the Medina and is well known. He is zealous about his guests, their safety and enjoyment and he’ll do anything he can to make his guests stay enjoyable. Larbi has some restaurants with favoured pricing (believe or not as you don’t usually bargain on meals) and within a day I found myself known by more than one local which is nice when you’re a stranger in this environment. He’s also very concerned that his guests are treated fairly in the Medina. He walked me to the bank and ticket office interpreted on my behalf and waited till I was done. Larbi bailed me out on a jewlery purchase that was going to cost 1,150 Dirham. He walked me to another store where I was able to get better quality for 400 dirham. Might not be a 5 star hotel (whatever that means) but it’s a 5 star attitude at Dar Tanger.

I stayed at the hotel in mid August for 2 nights. We arrived 2am but the staff who I texted by WhatsApp (sorry I didn't catch his name as he was present just as we were leaving) kindly arranged Aziz to meet us where the taxi dropped us off. That was much appreciated considering it was my family's first time in Morocco. The room was huge and there was sufficient furnishings, however I would've liked the curtains to close properly for both the top and bottom windows. The bathroom is small and the hot water wasn't very hot and ran slowly. The breakfast was good and served on the roof which was nice. On the second morning we noticed they served us olives that they had already provided to someone else as there were still pips in the bowl. It makes me wonder that they recycle breads etc if they're not eaten (and most likely touched). The manager and Aziz were super lovely people and that's what made our stay wonderful. The hotel is also clean even if it is a basic one. It's located within the Medina which is ideal to visit all the nearby tourist attractions on foot.
