We had a wonderful stay here it is a truly unique boutique hotel. Our rooms were out of this world with gorgeous views and a bathroom to die for. Everyone in the hotel couldn’t have been kinder and body boarding in the Indian Ocean was totally amazing. We loved it

Returning to Geoffrey Bawa’s iconic Last House is like stepping into a living masterpiece. It isn't just a Bawa-designed marvel, it feels like a cherished family home—a place where you belong. The owner’s vision is evident in the details, creating a space that inspires relaxation and connection to nature. The staff are attentive and kind ensuring my stay was seamless—leaving me free to enjoy the serenity of the setting. Mornings began with a beautiful breakfast - and the joy of playing in the white waves of the Sri Lankan Ocean. I loved the fruit platter and the thamili with a Sri Lankan herb. I always looked forward to lunch and supper with a range of Sri Lankan vegetable curries - often after a lime soda or something stronger - I always felt full and never heavy. The gardens are lush and alive with wildlife: I love the different flowers - the water lilies, frangipani, and white bougainvillea. Peacocks strut across the grass, langurs run along the garden wall and eat the pandanus fruit, and the birds have become more diverse. The neighboring rewilding site by the lake has enriched the biodiversity, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts. The Last House offers more than just a getaway—it’s an invitation to live beautifully, immersed in the harmony of design, nature, and genuine hospitality.

Wonderful house designed by renowned Sri Lankan architect, Geoffrey Bawa, choc full of interesting art and artefacts. We loved the quiet location at the end of a beautiful beach. We stayed in the Cinnamon Room upstairs where the sound of the waves lulled us to sleep. Leaving doors and windows open created a cooling breeze. The friendly manager, Ananda, made an effort to check in with all the guests every day. The warm staff are unobtrusive but always on hand for anything you need. As part of their eco conscious drive they provide water in glass bottles in the rooms, which are topped up daily. Loved their Ayurvedic toiletries made from natural products like coconut, vanilla and cinnamon.The food is all freshly made and absolutely delicious. We are vegetarian so could have done with a few more dinner options but used the opportunity to try some local restaurants in nearby Tangalle, all easily accessible in a tuk tuk.

The Last House offers am intimate Bowa designed experience. Each villa is uniques in colonial contemporary style. The AC, electric, views, classic pool and superb food make this unique retreat from the normal beach spots. The beach is very secluded.

How does one describe perfection........ a Geoffrey Bawa designed hotel on a quiet tropical beach with fantastic service and exceptional food. It just doesn't get any better than this. This place oozes class and style. We stayed at a number of boutique hotels throughout Sri Lanka and this place was a real highlight. We stayed in the Moonamal suite on the ground floor which was beautifully decorated with ensuite bathroom with shower plus an additional outside shower in secluded area. The garden of the property has a gate right onto the beach which is pretty much undeveloped and unspoilt with just coconut trees, golden sand and warm tropical water. Perfect ! The hotel is at the far eastern end of the beach giving you a secluded and almost private beach area. It's a very pleasant walk along the beach to the other end, where you will pass a number of fishing boats. We took a tuk tuk 20 minutes to spend a day at Hiriketiya Beach which was very pleasant with quite a few bars and restaurants and lots of surfboards to rent. This is a very pretty beach and although developed, it isn't spoilt. I also have to mention the quality of the food which was better absolutely first class and if anyone reads the Mr and Mrs Smith review saying there is no alcohol for sale her, do not believe them, The Last House serves the best cocktails we had in all of Sri Lanka.

The Last House is a stunning, calm oasis from the moment you arrive. The architecture is simply beautiful, every detail is thought through without being overdone. The beds are very comfortable, the air conditioning is effective and plenty of space. The pool is lovely to swim in at any time of day, we even enjoyed a few night swims during our stay. The food is absolutely delicious, with fresh, locally sourced ingredients the dishes have a contemporary take on Sri Lankan cuisine. The garden and terraces are gorgeous cool spaces to relax in the heat if you wish to spend time outside without being at the beach - the perfect place to read a book Everything had just the right touch, we felt well cared for and special. Be sure to visit, this little part of paradise if you're heading along the south coast of Sri Lanka - especially if you're into architecture and design!
