APA Villa Thalpe

Little nice boutique hotel directly on the beach set in a wonderful garden with pool. We had super big suite with Patio and personal butler. Personnel was nice and careful, we had great breakfast and a very good dinner. Overall experience was really good, the pool is great and the beach beautiful, just be aware that it is not possible to swim because of the stream and dangerous fish.

A beautiful Unawatuna beach can be reached in less than 10 minutes from the hotel.The staff is all very friendly, and I would like to express my gratitude to Prabath, Suresh, Security, and all hotel staff. The lemongrass soup has exceeded our expectations. Shane and Agnes

Beautiful property -- we enjoyed spending time here so much, we took most of our meals at our room since we didn't want to leave! The Sri Lankan feast was delicious and reasonably priced The staff was very warm and acommodating throughout. The beach, though not wide, was gorgeous.

Location - The property is not a luxury boteque hotel as their reservation department describes and charged. It is an average budget type one. Probably one of the cheapest quality places I have been to. However, the property is very close to the beach. You literally step out to the sea. There are a lot of bugs and insects/ants in the room. Dead cockroaches were in the bathroom. Service - Staff are very friendly and helpful. However, there is no room service. You need to step out of the room and ring a bell and wait till they come if you need anything. Upon checking said we have a private butler but you need to search him. There’s no dental kits available in the hotel. We have to pay and send butler for buying toothpaste & brush. Food - Not tasty at all with average portions other than breakfast which were very small. English breakfast had two tiny keells sausages and teaspoon of tiny pieces of potatoes with eggs. No filling at all. Pathetic food for luxury as described. Improvements - Need to add room service and rethink their meals. Personally feel that it's not worth the money.

Beautiful, expansive and idyllic location. Excellent food, extremely comfortable rooms with beautiful decor, right on the beach. We spent a day between the beach, the infinity pool and enjoying drinks on our loungers. In the late afternoon we watched green turtles in the shallow waves not 25 metres away. A perfect retreat only 25 mins from Galle. Very friendly staff, excellent service.

The last time I was here, I had sweet memories of the suite and the location. Fast forward to 3 years later, and it's still the same. Aside from the rooms newly renovated and the tortoise grown up, the peace and serenity of Apa Villa is the exact same. One thing to note is that their food has definitely changed. Apa Villa chefs have upped their game and pushed out some really yummy dishes. We were on a full board basis, and I never got bored of the food. My favourite is their lemon tart for dessert. Also, don't skip out on the massage. You have two lovely Sri Lankan ladies that use Ayurvedic oil to untangle your knotted muscles. It was so heavenly we got it two days in a row! We were in the Cardamom Suite. Massive space. While the structure of the rooms is colonial, the facilities aren't. The rooms have AC and a massive bathroom. There's also a cute living room with books to read. Meals are arranged out on the patio where you can watch the waves collide against the sand. They have a long pool and hammocks to lay lazily on. My husband and I loved our trip. Special thank you to Suresh and his team for making our stay extra comfy and attentive to our needs. Apa Villa is a great place to visit either as a couple or as a family.
