Our son and his family came here a few years back and because they loved their experience so much, we decided to splurge on a vacation here to celebrate my wife's retirement. We opted for the American Plan, for one week, which is supposed to include daily housekeeping. The staff was friendly at check-in. When we got to our cabin, it became clear that the pictures on the website, and the promise of a "recently renovated bathroom", were not entirely accurate. The bathroom sink was not attched to the wall. The water pressure in the shower was next to nothing. The toilet needed to have the lid removed from the back to have the chain reattached, at least 10 times. The shelf above the sink was also in danger of falling off. We understand that we were not going to a 5 star hotel, but these are basic things you would expect, especially for the kind of money they're getting. Over the course of the week, we had to remind the staff that we had the American Plan at least 5 times. At the end of our 7 days, we had received only 4 days worth of this service. We had to ask at the office for basic things like garbage bags, a recycling bin, towels and face cloths, a fan, firewood and to come in and tidy up. These are all things we paid for and were supposed to get, without my having to go and ask for them every day or so. Each time I reminded someone on the staff about this, they were very friendly and "sorry" but I found myself going back to ask for the basics, time and again. When I was asked at check-out how my stay was, the response was the same. I was also told that the manager would be informed. We have yet to hear anything about it. I would have welcomed some feedback. I've included some pictures of some of the cabin so readers can judge for themselves. I could have taken more, but when check out time came, we just wanted to leave. I can only guess, but it seems to me that Waterfalls Lodge has been bought by someone who sees it as an investment and nothing else. The state of the cabin we were in and the grounds in general should have tipped us off right away. There is no pride of ownership. The staff, while friendly gave the impression that they were somewhat "handcuffed" by restrictions from managment, like there was some kind of mandate to do the bare minimum. I should mention that the kitchen staff was excellent and I have no complaints about the boat and it's maintenance. That said, good food and a good boat are not nearly enough for us to spend that kind of money at Waterfalls Lodge ever again.
